Trying something new. Here are the sermon notes from Sunday 09/07/2025:
The sermon is built around Luke 12:35–48 and emphasizes readiness, responsibility, and accountability as core marks of a faithful Christian life. Believers are called to live prepared for Christ’s return, steward well what God has entrusted to them, and remember they will one day give an account.
Key Points
1. Readiness
Jesus’ return is imminent, though the timing is hidden.
Being ready means actively living in service, not passively waiting.
Like servants watching for their master, we must keep our “lamps burning” and be found faithful.
Readiness is not about trying to time Christ’s return but about living each day in obedience.
2. Responsibility
Believers are stewards, not owners. Families, children, churches, and resources belong to God.
Stewardship means leading and caring well, especially in homes and churches.
Men are challenged to lead their households spiritually, but all Christians are called to use their gifts for service.
True greatness in God’s kingdom is marked by serving others, just as Jesus came not to be served but to serve.
3. Accountability
One day, every person will give an account to God.
“To whom much is given, much will be required” (v. 48).
Complacency and self-indulgence are dangerous—ministers and churches fall when they lose focus on Christ and drift toward pride, money, or self-serving motives.
Accountability should stir both holy fear and hope, since God is merciful and offers forgiveness when we repent.
Warnings
Complacency dulls faith: gradually shifting focus from God to the world leads to neglect and sin.
Leadership without character leads to destruction.
Excuses mask disobedience; believers must confront sin honestly rather than justify it.
Encouragement
God is gracious, offering second and third chances through repentance.
Readiness comes by living a life of service, love, and watchfulness.
Every believer is called to be a minister of the gospel in their own sphere.
The question to wrestle with daily: “If Christ returned right now, what would He find me doing?”
Closing Challenge
Don’t just look good on the outside like a leafy but fruitless fig tree.
Live with real fruit—serving, loving, stewarding, and keeping focus on Christ.
Readiness is active, not passive; it’s about living the Word, not just knowing it.
Repent quickly when you fail, because God is merciful, but also keep a holy fear of accountability.
Be found faithful, fruitful, and unashamed when the Master returns.
