What is the Palanca? Palanca is the prayer, sacrifice, and self-giving offered to God for a specific intention—especially for the fruits of a Cursillo (in this case, for the volunteers, the preparation of the National Encounter, and the fruits of the Encounter) and for the people participating in it. In other words, everything that is offered with love (prayer, suffering, small sacrifices, acts of charity) so that God may act in hearts. Palanca is the most important thing, because it is what moves everything. Eduardo Bonnin, Servant of God, said that the most important thing for a Cursillo is the Palanca, “90% Prayer and 10% Preparation,” for the Cursillo is not the work of men, but of God’s grace.
