As early as 1699, Friends were known to be holding meeting for worship within their homes in the area known today as Westport. In 1715, James Tripp was employed by Friends at Apponegansett Meeting (Dartmouth) to build a meetinghouse on "Coaksett," today known as Westport. The meetinghouse was finished in August of 1715. Friends have been worshiping on Main Road in Westport since 1716. Westport Fri

ends Meeting is part of Sandwich Quarterly Meeting, a group of Friends Meetings that stretches from Swansea, MA, eastward though Cape Cod, including Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket Islands. We in turn are part of New England Yearly Meeting of Friends, which comprises nearly all of the Quaker meetings in New England. Our meeting is unprogrammed, which means we experiences worship in and through the silence of those gathered. We utilize neither paid pastor nor clergy, as all are called to minister one to another within an unprogrammed meeting. We invite all to worship with us.
