The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization. It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people. Founded by Father Michael J. McGivney, the Knights of Columbus was chartered on March 29, 1882 in Connecticut. John Council was chartered as Council 3738 on

November 15, 1953. Worldwide, more than 14,000 Councils with a more than 1.8 million members have been chartered. John Council has more than 300 members. The Knights of Columbus offers you social outlets, athletic and recreational programs, community service, involvement with youth and feeling of belonging that new friendships can provide. Active in Church ministries, members are urged to serve as lectors, Eucharistic ministers, ushers, religious education instructors, participants in Parish organizations, and to provide manpower for Church buildings and grounds projects. The Knights of Columbus is one of the nation's oldest service organizations and offers programs for its members and their families. Knights are committed to all areas of Church and social involvement: in vocations, human rights, family life, support for law and order, and opportunities for the disadvantaged, especially those with developmental disabilities in our community. Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practical Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who shall not be less than 18 years of age on their last birthday. A practical Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the Precepts of the Church. Application blanks are available from any member of the Knights of Columbus. All are welcome to call the KC hall directly at (630)969-3738, stop by during one of our events, or e-mail one of the other officers. We will be more than happy to assist you.

"Dear migrants: Before I say anything else I want to bow before your dignity. ... You are not just numbers or files. You are people who have left behind families and homes. You have dreams that no one has the right to despise.”

THANKS to the Knights & Lady from our Council, St. John #3738, who stepped up to serve dinner at Special Camps yesterday - You're awesome, to drive 90 minutes through severe weather, and donate your time and spirit. (Thank You Uncle Bubs, your BBQ pulled pork, mac-n-cheese, & cole slaw were great hits)

This program, started over 32 years ago by Brother Knight, Reed Calahan, and managed by his daughter, Colleen McDonald has grown in so many ways! Our Council was fortunate to be counted as a supporter from the beginning.

Special Camps (est. in 1995), provides opportunities
for kids and adults with intellectual disabilities to experience new activities, form friendships, increase independence and build self esteem in week long, overnight camps.

Camp encourages the development of social skills through interactive activities alongside a teen volunteer in a structured setting, under adult supervision. Evening parties include hayrides, bingo, campfire songs with s'mores, dancing and more.
Special Camps is run by volunteers. Most of the adult leaders have been with us for more than 20 years. Volunteers must pass both personal and police background checks. All volunteers receive training. At camp, volunteers develop leadership skills while gaining insight into the lives of special needs individuals. Volunteers have unique opportunity to learn from the campers, that they come to play and live along side. These interactions often lead to both personal and professional growth.
Special Camps provides weeklong respite to families and caregivers. Raising a child with special needs can be a very rewarding experience, but may also provide life-long care and financial challenges. That's why Special Camps provides scholarships for any camper in need. Campers who are able, pay $400 for their one week stay at camp.

Wonderful Mass & Service with the Silver Rose at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Thank You to those serving as Honor guard - Father Jeff Smilialek, Deacon Tony Lenard, Deacon-in-Training Frank Prado, and those who surrendered their evening for this important "Respect Life" asking Our Lady of Guadelupe for her intercession. It was great to see clergy from both of the Parishes we support, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Father Jeff and from Holy Trinity, Deacon Tony, on the Altar together. Also joining us in prayers were Knights from another Council - a true sign of Unity. PGK & DD Chris Simon, our special Thanks for coordinating this.
