Bede the Venerable is a traditional Anglican church seeking to share the Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ with the people of Carroll County, Maryland, and beyond. We accept fully the faith once delivered in the Sacred Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as containing all things necessary unto salvation, such that nothing which is not written in them nor may be proved thereby is to be believed as d
octrine; the three ancient Creeds (Apostles, Nicene, and Athanasian) and the Ecumenical Councils of the ancient and undivided Church as sure guides to the right interpretation of those Scriptures; and the teachings of the Ancient Fathers and the Anglican Divines. As a Christian community in the classical Anglican tradition, we are committed both to liturgical worship according to the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, and to hospitality to all who come to us, either in person or via the internet. We also minister to reenactors and reenactment groups at historical and other events. We recognize and celebrate the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion (also known as the Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper) as the sacraments of the Gospel, instituted by Christ himself, and as being generally necessary to salvation. We also recognize the “Lesser Sacraments” of Confirmation, Reconciliation, Marriage, Holy Orders, and Unction as sacramental rites that grew up in the Church under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
