Out of an abundance of caution, tomorrow's Easter Sunrise Service will be moved to the St. Mary's UCC pavilion, behind the church. With rain in the forecast, we want to ensure a dry and prayerful environment as we watch for the sunrise!

While you're here - what happens at a Sunrise Service? There's lots of ways to observe it, but here, it is a service of light, word, and water. Light is a symbol of Christ's rising in the world and in our hearts. Word tells us the story again of salvation, written into the human experience from creation. And water calls us to renew our baptismal vows, our participation in Christ's death and resurrection. You're invited to join us, 6:30 AM!

"It is finished."

Today is Good Friday, the day God dies.

Read that again. "The day God dies."

We live in a world where death is all around us. So what makes this death so different? Why are we still telling the story of a Jewish peasant's cruel crucifixion 2000 years later? Well, it's rooted in what we believe about this man we call Jesus. And we'll explore that tonight at a service of Tenebrae, or "shadows."

We'll be at St. Mary's UCC tonight, 7:00 PM. Hope you'll join us on this most holy night.

"He loved them to the end."

Tonight kicks off Triduum, the three holiest days of the year, days that call us to deeper trust in our crucified Savior. Join us this evening for our observance of Maundy Thursday, as we share a simple meal of soup and bread (free food!) and listen carefully to Christ's final words to his apostles.

The service will be at 6:30 PM at the St. Mary's Lutheran Parish Hall. And we're eager to share this meal with you!

Is the world all a bit much right now? Are you feeling a need to focus on something deeper, more solid, more significant than our hour-by-hour newsfeed? Join us for Holy Week.

Holy Week begins on Sunday as we celebrate Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. It continues with our memorial of the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday, complete with a soup and bread dinner. And we stop at the foot of the cross for a service of Tenebrae on Good Friday.

Tomorrow, we begin our observance of Lent with Ash Wednesday. We come back to that basic call of faith, "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith..."

We'll gather at St. Mary's UCC at 7:30 AM for a time of morning prayer with ashes, and at 7:00 PM for a more formal service of prayer, confession, and ashes.

May the Lord bless you and keep you as you observe a holy Lent.

Cold outside, but warm inside! What a wonderful Sunday at St. Mary's Lutheran!

We talked about Jesus' most fundamental teaching, the Beatitudes. Here's how we described them:

Blessed are the poor in spirit: those who are bad at being spiritual.
Blessed are they who mourn: those who feel their feels.
Blessed are the meek: those who leave margins in their lives.
Blessed are the hungry for justice: those who truly desire a world made right.
Blessed are the merciful: those who get that mercy triumphs over judgment.
Blessed are the pure in heart: those who are focused, free of the “stuff.”
Blessed are the peacemakers: those who don’t want to be right, but get it right.
Blessed are the persecuted: happy are those who endure pain for the right reason.

Which one of these took on new meaning for you yesterday?
