David was anointed long before he wore a crown.

God saw something in David that others missed.

Your calling isn't determined by your title, platform, or position. Sometimes God is preparing you in places nobody sees before He places you where everyone will.

Trust the process. Trust the One who called you.

Jesse’s backyard became a throne room when the eighth son shuffled in smelling of sheep. While brothers flexed stature, David’s heartbeat synced with God’s rhythm. Society dismisses the young, the rural, the overlooked—but Heaven’s searchlight finds willing vessels. Our King still bypasses boardrooms to recruit in break rooms, turning shepherds into psalmists and fishermen into apostles. [25:52]

“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height… The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’” (1 Samuel 16:7, NIV)

Reflection: What “unimpressive” part of your story might God be highlighting for His glory? How could viewing others through Heaven’s lens change your relationships?

What if the very thing that makes you feel overlooked is exactly what God wants to use?

David wasn't the obvious choice. He wasn't the strongest, oldest, or most impressive.

But God has a history of choosing outsiders, misfits, and unlikely people to accomplish His purposes.

Maybe you've been counting yourself out when God hasn't.

Outsiders. Misfits. The overlooked.

Throughout Scripture, God has a pattern of choosing the people others would never expect. David wasn't the obvious choice. He wasn't the strongest, oldest, or most impressive. Yet God saw something different.

"Outsiders and misfits are God's specialty."

If you've ever felt overlooked, underestimated, or unqualified, this message is for you.

Over the past four weeks, we've explored what happens when people come face-to-face with the risen Jesus.

From Thomas moving from doubt to surrender, to discovering God's mission, to encountering Jesus through the Holy Spirit, to Saul's dramatic transformation on the road to Damascus, one truth has remained the same:

Jesus is still meeting people today.

If you missed a week, joined us partway through the series, or would like to revisit these powerful messages, we've gathered the entire *Encounter* series into one playlist.

This week in *Encounter*, we looked at one of the most dramatic encounters with Jesus in Scripture: Saul's conversion on the road to Damascus.

Saul's life was headed in one direction until Jesus interrupted his plans and changed everything.

From Saul's story, we discover three truths that are still relevant today:

➡️ Disruption can be an invitation. Sometimes the unexpected moments in life are the very places where God wants to get our attention.

➡️ Our insufficiency can lead us to dependence. Saul's blindness forced him to recognize what he couldn't do on his own and who he truly needed.

➡️ Transformation happens in community. God used Ananias to welcome, encourage, and help Saul take his next steps of faith.

Maybe the disruption you're facing isn't the end of the story. Maybe it's an opportunity for Jesus to meet you in a transformative way.

𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟…
the disruptions in your life are actually opportunities for God to show up in a transformative way?

Sometimes the moments we would never choose become the very places where Jesus meets us most personally.

𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 if He’s working even in the interruption?
𝗪𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 have you seen God show up unexpectedly?
𝗪𝐡𝐨 might need this reminder today?

🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Today we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As we gather with family and friends today, may we also take a moment to reflect with gratitude on the freedoms we enjoy because of those who served with courage and selflessness. ❤️🤍💙

Please join us in remembering and praying for the families of our fallen heroes today.

Clouds swallowed Jesus’ feet as the disciples craned necks upward. Angels broke their trance: “Why stand gazing?” Ascension wasn’t a finale but a starter’s pistol. The real miracle wasn’t His leaving – it was their staying to birth the Church.

We spiritualize inaction as “waiting on God.” But Jesus’ departure demands our boots-on-ground participation. The kingdom advances through grocery store conversations and casserole deliveries as much as cathedral sermons.

What holy distraction keeps you from today’s mission? Where have you substituted spiritual spectating for joining Jesus’ present work?

“And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven?’”
(Acts 1:10-11, ESV)

Prayer: Ask for courage to move from observer to participant in one specific situation.
Challenge: Do one postponed act of service you’ve been “praying about” this week.
