Deep Run Church

Deep Run Church Come and see! All are welcome to join us in learning from Jesus Christ and celebrating his good news. He said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.

We are a Christ-following, neighbor-loving church in Westminster, MD rooted deep in the ancient beliefs of Christianity, affiliated with The Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Whoever believes in me...out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." So our hope is to offer "living water" in Jesus' name to anyone who desires it.

"Peace to you was the first thing the risen Jesus of Nazareth said to all his disciples.

We are a distracted and anxious people. We are divided in some ways in our society. Our money buys less now. Our jobs are less stable. We thought one global conflict was enough and now we have two.

But if Jesus rose from the dead, and his sacrifice paid your moral debt, and secured your future, you're going to be okay.

Jesus is saying, Peace to you. You're going to be okay.

You're going to suffer. You're going to face hardship. And every one of us will face death...for a time.

But because Jesus lives, you're going to be okay.

The resurrection is the most solid foundation for a person's peace in this life and in the next.

Jesus offers to you his peace, his proofs, and himself.

Take all of it in faith."

- Sermon: Jesus and His Peace
- Scripture: Luke 24:36-43

"The serious Christian, the true, devout, consistent Christ follower and member of Christ's church has an opportunity to promote healthy marriages that reflect the grace of God in our society and to our neighbors.

Marriage like no other human relationship not simply reflects the wholeness and the oneness of God but the triune nature of our God who is father and son and spirit.

One God yet three distinct persons who as you read the scriptures lovingly glorify one another and submit to one another.

Marriage, human marriage, one flesh, two distinct persons coming together to complement and serve one another.

Christianity teaches that the redemption of marriage was accomplished by God himself.

God's love for his spouse was faithful, even to the point of it costing him everything.

Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.

Just as much as God had an original design for what marriage was supposed to be, this is part of God's design for the redemption of marriage, to love one another by giving ourselves up for one another.

The Christian understanding of marriage is not that we're going to go out there and show everybody what the perfect marriage looks like.

You are fooling yourself if you think that's ever going to happen in your home.

Ultimately, the point of Christian marriage is to point the world towards that heavenly marriage.

We point the world and our neighbors towards the marriage between Christ and his bride, the church.

The way we point our neighbors and our children and our grandchildren toward that perfect heavenly marriage is by practicing together mutual repentance and forgiveness.

What an opportunity to reflect the grace of God to our children and to our neighbors."

The apostle Paul told us: “By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing. It is the gift of God. Not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

The one morality that matters is the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

Your morality ultimately does not matter.

What matters is the righteousness of Christ as the morality that has been credited to you as a gift.

The righteousness of Jesus Christ who loved God the Father with all his heart and will with all his soul and with all his mind and with all his strength.

That act of love is the gift of God. That act of love is God’s righteousness for us.

Only from that act of love do we begin to know the one true God and Jesus whom he has sent.

Only from that love comes true morality, which is your life lived in response to that love.

The Samaritan, at great personal risk, helped and rehabilitated his enemy.

The Samaritan traveled the same thief infested road toward Jericho, now on foot because he put the half dead man on his animal.

He takes him to the inn and says, take care of this guy. I'll be back. I'll pay for the whole thing.

He expended his own resources and risked his own safety.

In Jesus' story, the enemy is the hero. The enemy is the true neighbor.

True love expends you and inconveniences you.

Love your neighbor well.
