“God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet”! The ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ gives us reason for praise. We have a king who reigns on heaven’s throne—both for the good of His people and over the entire world. He reigns over us with forgiveness and grace through the Church, and we respond by enthroning Him on our praise. (See Psalm 47)

So many stories feature orphans, tapping into a deep-seated fear, but Jesus puts our fears to rest with His promise: “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” Since we’re not orphans, we’re called into His love—to love Him and love others. Who will help us? Another promise! “I will ask the Father and He will give you another Helper to be with you forever”—a helper to dwell with us and be in us. See John 14:15–21.

The Lord has bared His holy arm (Isaiah 52:10)! And when the Word became flesh (John 1:14), that holy arm was the holy arm of the infant Jesus, the redeemer of the world. Merry Christmas!
