Wednesday’s Word:
I have said it on more than one occasion, music has always been an important part of my life, especially music in the church. Music speaks to me in ways nothing else can. Often after choir rehearsal or after Sunday worship, I will have a song we sang in the choir playing in my head all week long. On Sunday we sang “Treasure Each Moment” by Joseph Martin. The song has been described as a simple song of comfort and a gentle admonition not to take for granted the life of grace given to us from God. Appropriate for occasions, happy and sad, where assurance and comfort are needed. The music and lyrics are beautiful and pe*****te the soul. Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:4-5: “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.” Life is indeed a gift from God to be treasured and lived in full with God’s love for us guiding us through. Let God’s love and the words of “Treasure Each Moment” fill your heart and soul with love, light, and thankfulness for that precious gift from God!

Treasure each moment. Live every day. Drink from the cup that God fills with his Grace. In sorrow and laughter, joy and in strife treasure each moment of life.

Treasure each moment. Time does not wait. Touch those around you and feel their embrace. In hard times and plenty, God will provide. Treasure each moment of life.

Treasure each moment sent from above. Live in thanksgiving, reflecting God’s love. In springtime and winter, come rain or shine treasure each moment of life.

Treasure each moment of life. Treasure your life.

Wednesday’s Word:

We often search for God during different times in our lives, so I thought I would share this daily devotional for the UCC. May you find God wherever you are and in whatever situation you find yourself. He is always there, no matter what!

Groping for God by Vicki Kemper (UCC Daily Devotional)

[Paul said,] “God made all peoples to inhabit the whole earth … so that they would search for God and perhaps fumble about for God and find God—though indeed God is not far from each one of us. For ‘In God we live and move and have our being.’” – Acts 17:26-28 (NRSVUE, adapted)

Who among us has not spent frantic minutes (or hours) looking for our glasses or our keys or our phone—only to discover that they were on our head or in our hand the entire time?

The apostle Paul says our search for God is like that. While we’re tearing the house apart looking for what we already have, while we’re searching for meaning as if it’s not right in front of us, the Holy One is forever lighting flares and sending us love notes, just waiting for us to notice.

God has given rise to every good thing—babies and bald eagles, bird song and gospel music, lovers and friends, asparagus and tomatoes, community and diversity, solidarity and resistance, a capacity for healing, soup kitchens and hugs and so much more—just so we can experience, enjoy, and maybe even know capital-L Love.

The good news is that God wants to be found by us—and that her heart aches for us even as we litter our lives with all that is not God.

We are too often like fish, swimming in an ocean of God’s love and not even realizing it. Perhaps we could stop our anxious paddling and roll over and just float for a while, enjoying the view.

Prayer
God who is love, may we never stop groping for you. And even when we find you, may we never consider our search complete.

Wednesday’s Word:

On Sunday we celebrated Pentecost and today I thought I would share a Pentecost Mediation to help us focus on the Holy Spirit and prepare us to go out into the world and be God’s Light. Pentecost is the celebration of the Holy Spirit descending upon the apostles, empowering them to share the Gospel. This meditation guides you to step into the "Upper Room" to experience the Spirit's breath, overcome fear, and be sent forth with renewed courage and purpose.

The Breath of the Spirit: Take a slow, deep breath in. Hold it for a moment and exhale completely. The original Hebrew and Greek words for the Spirit translate to wind or breath. Just as the breath of God brought life at the very beginning of creation, that same life-giving breath is being breathed into you today. Reflect: Where does the air in your soul feel stale? What hidden corners of your heart need the fresh wind of God to bring clarity, comfort, and peace?

Embracing the Fire: On the day of Pentecost, the Spirit arrived not just as a gentle breeze, but as tongues of fire. Fire purifies, warms, and illuminates. It consumes fear and replaces it with holy boldness. Reflect: What fears, anxieties, or hesitations are holding you back from living your faith? Ask the Holy Spirit to burn away those barriers and ignite a passion to love, heal, and serve those around you.

Moving from the Room to the World: The disciples spent time gathered together, waiting and praying. But Pentecost wasn't just an inward, private experience; it was a launching pad. The Spirit pushed them out of the safety of the Upper Room and into the streets to speak truth and bring unity to a broken world. Reflect: You are being sent out into your own community, workplace, and relationships. How will you be the hands, feet, and voice of Christ this week?

A Closing Prayer: Breath of God, Holy Spirit, come breathe on me. Burn away my fears, fill me with your gifts, and give me the courage to step outside my comfort zone to be your light in the world. Amen

Wednesday’s Word:
They’ll know we are Christians by our love! How true that is! We are many and we are different, but we are all children of God. Jesus came and brought us all together, but we often forget that especially in times of fear and uncertainty. Fear and uncertainty often take hold of us and can cause us to hate others for various reasons. But as followers of Christ we should look to God and ask Him to send the Holy Spirit to us to guide us, calm our fears, drive out hate, and instill peace and hope in our hearts. The Apostle Paul reminded the early church in Ephesians 2:13-22: “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility. He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.” We today need to take Paul’s words to heart. There’s no room for hate in God’s kingdom. Hate is not of God. Love is of God. Let us follow Christ command to us in John 13:34-35: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” They’ll know we are Christians by our love! AMEN!

Wednesday’s Word:
We are all a part of God’s family, and we should treat one another accordingly, especially in times of uncertainty and trouble like we are now going through. Christ commands us in John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” As family we should help one another through rough times and rejoice with each other in good times. We should lift each other up in spirit and in prayer, provide help and support to each other, and love and accept each other as Christ loves and accepts us. Romans 12:10-13 instructs us to “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” The church is God’s home and we are his family. Although we cannot always physically meet and embrace one another, we can always embrace all of God’s family with our hearts and with our prayers. Let us open wide the doors of our hearts, set out the Lord’s welcome mat, and greet each other with open, loving hearts.

Wednesday’s Word:
We live in a troubled world full of so much hatred and war. Now more than ever we need to pray for peace in our world, both locally and globally. But we also need to take action and be peacemakers in this world. In Matthew 5:9 Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” Every small act of peace counts, as does every small prayer for peace. Prayer and action go hand in hand. Practicing random acts of kindness and love spreads peace. Every day let us stop and pray for peace in this world then go out and be God’s peacemakers.
WORLD PEACE PRAYER (author unknown)
Dear God, I pray for world peace. Jesus, you said, "I, when I am lifted up on the earth, will draw all men to myself." As I lift my thoughts to the high consciousness of peace, I help lift the thoughts of all people throughout the world to peace. God, what a blessing it is to know that I can contribute to the peace of this world through prayer. My prayers reach out to unfold all nations and people of the earth. I know that the same presence of peace that is within me resides in people everywhere – no matter who they are, or where they live. No matter what religion we profess, each person has been created with the peace of God at the center of his or her being. God's peace harmonizes all seeming disagreements and dissolves all differences. God's peace brings great freedom to all. My prayer and my vision of the world is of a peaceful planet. As I hold to this prayer and vision, I remember that peace begins with me. I pray, in Jesus Christ name, Amen.
