Dear St. Matthew families,
Out of an abundance of caution, St. Matthew Lutheran School (Preschool–8th Grade) will be closed tomorrow, Friday, October 31, 2025 due to a recent rise in student illness, including several suspected cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD).

Our teachers and staff will be on campus tomorrow to bleach and thoroughly sanitize classrooms, restrooms, and common areas.

What we need from you

Please monitor your child for symptoms of illness (fever, sore throat, rash, mouth sores, stomach upset, etc.).

If your child becomes ill or receives a diagnosis from a healthcare provider, please email Mrs. Tammy (school office) so we can keep the required health records on file.

Students should remain home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication and symptoms are improving.

We will share any further updates as needed. Thank you for your cooperation and partnership in keeping our students and staff healthy.

With appreciation,

*Mr. Burk

Vivian Shepard

Aug 21, 1926 - May 25, 2024
Vivian Lois Shepard, 97, of Summerville entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 25, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Myrtle Walters Ploughman. She was born on August 21, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan.
Vivian graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, Michigan in 1944. She then went on to work for the Dearborn Police Department for 30 years, specializing in communications, and eventually becoming a superintendent. She enjoyed many things in her life including: going to the casino, going out for dinner, and playing Pinochle with her friends and family. She loved her family with all her heart and never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. She was a lifelong faithful churchgoer, with her last church home being Grace Lutheran Church in Summerville. She loved her dog “Chloe” and they did everything together.
Surviving is her daughter, Lynn Shepard, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Ploughman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local animal shelter or to Grace Lutheran Church, 1600 Old Trolley Road, Summerville, SC 29485
