The Indiana Conference takes this responsibility seriously. Our employees and volunteers participate in child-safety training and undergo background checks. However, these efforts alone cannot guarantee the complete safety of our children.
This is where you, the local church members, come in. First, if you are volunteering with the children in your church, go through Sterling Volunteers training and background check. The more people in our churches who have gone through Sterling, the better. Start the process at https://www.ncsrisk.org/. Second, whether you are working with children or not, as you observe and interact with the children in your church, keep your eyes and ears open.
If you see or hear something that causes concern, don’t ignore it. Speak up and take appropriate action. Share your concerns with church leaders, such as Sabbath School teachers, Pathfinder or Adventurer leaders, or your pastor.
Together, by God’s grace, we can help keep our children safe.
