💙 Today We Honor Our Lady of Sorrows 💙

Today, September 15, the Church celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, honoring Mary’s deep sorrow and her loving participation in the suffering of her Son, Jesus.

📜 A Little History:
Pope St. Pius X fixed the celebration of Our Lady of Sorrows on September 15, placing it exactly one day after the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross on September 14.

⚔️ The Seven Swords:
Devotional images often show Mary’s heart pierced by seven swords, symbolizing the seven sorrows she endured throughout her life and her compassionate sharing in Christ’s suffering.
Mary teaches us that even in the deepest sorrow, God is present, love endures, and hope remains.

🙏 Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us and for all who carry heavy hearts today.

✝️ The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross — September 14 ✝️
Today we celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, honoring the Cross of Christ as the instrument of our salvation.

The story of the Cross reaches back to the early days of Christianity. Around 326 AD, St. Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, traveled to Jerusalem and is traditionally credited with discovering the True Cross during excavations near the site of Christ’s tomb. In 335 AD, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was dedicated, and the Cross was lifted up for public veneration on September 14.

But today is about more than remembering an ancient relic. ❤️

The Cross reminds us that God can transform suffering into hope, death into life, and the darkest moments into the promise of resurrection.

As we look upon the Cross, we are reminded of Christ’s boundless love for each of us:

“We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.”

May we never be afraid to carry our own crosses, trusting that Christ walks with us and that the Cross always points toward the hope of the Resurrection. ✝️❤️

🇺🇸 Remembering 25 Years Since 9/11 🇺🇸

This year marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.
Many of us remember exactly where we were when we heard the news. We remember the shock, the fear, the uncertainty—and wondering about loved ones, friends, and those who were caught in the midst of unimaginable events.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage and compassion shown in the days that followed.

As we remember, may we also hold onto this truth:

God is always with us—even in the moments when we cannot understand, when we are afraid, and when the road ahead is uncertain.

May we never forget.
May we continue to pray.
And may we always choose hope, compassion, and love.

🙏 “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted.” — Psalm 34:18

Throwback to September 28, 1969! 💍⛪

Look at how different the altar at St. Luke’s looked 57 years ago during the wedding of Kathleen Bowman and Ray Brassard!

So much may have changed inside our church over the years, but the joy of celebrating love, faith, and the sacraments remains the same. ❤️

We love seeing these glimpses into St. Luke’s history—and the special moments that have taken place here through the generations.

Do you have an old photo from St. Luke’s? We’d love to see it! 📸 Share your memories with us and help us continue telling the story of our parish!!
