WELCOME TO THE AMERICAN CLASSIC!!! OLOL's First Ever Young Adult Volleyball Tourney!

Come for a great time of community, sport, and honoring this great nation Friday evening, September 11 at 6pm. Games will play on the south lawn of OLOL. After the tournament, we will have a bonfire/social afterwards!

ANY YOUNG ADULT OF ANY SKILL LEVEL IS WELCOME!!!

We live in a very busy atmosphere and a lot of us feel we have to fill every part of our schedules with something. We start to dislike the work we do and miss God's beauty and goodness in our work with the lack of GOOD rest.

Work is a good, but it is not meant to consume our schedules 24/7. We are made for rest, but a lot of us do not know how to get rest or even want it.

As we celebrate Labor Day in a few days and rest from our work/studies, we are going to answer the questions: why is rest important, how does one find rest in their busy lives, and what is the difference between resting and wasting time (spending too much time on the phone).

The goal for this one time study is to help people discover how they can rest and realize how good rest impacts their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. We hope that through finding good rest, you may be able to enjoy life more and even receive joy from the work you do everyday!

We will be in the Youth Ministry Room in the Basement of the Church. Bring a friend, especially if he or she needs to hear this topic!

Corpus Christi is Back this Friday!!!

Come for a beautiful night of encountering our Lord through the Eucharist, prayer, and with each other! This is a great night to center ourselves back on Christ, reflect off our week, spend time/meet great people, and REST

Adoration/Confession: 6pm
Mass: 7pm
Social: 8pm (bonfire/cook-out)

Another Saint of the Day:

A Norbertine, protected by the Blessed Virgin Mary, and with courage willing to face any form of harm for the protection of his Abbey

Memorial of Blessed Hroznata of Teplá, O. Praem.
(Norbertine laybrother, martyr, patron of Czech diocese of Pilsen)

Summary of Courage:

Blessed Hroznata was born in 1160 and he was known as a czech nobleman. When he was born, his mother consecrated (dedicated) him to the Blessed Virgin Mary for her protection. Hroznata was married and had one son. However, both his wife and son experienced a terrible accident and died.

He founded a Norbertine monastery in Tepla in 1193. He made a vow to Pope Innocent III to join the crusades and free the Holy Land. The crusade eventually failed and the Pope wanted him to help build a sister monastery in Tepla in 1202.

Pope Innocent III eventually gave Hroznata permission to join the Norbertines and became a laybrother. He was put in charge to be the administrator of his monastery’s property in Tepla. He dealt with multiple nobles who tried to take over the land because of their greed.

Eventually while traveling, Hronzata was captured by thieves and was put into a prison at Mt. Kinsberg. The thieves held Hronzata at a large ransom sum, but he did allow for the Abbey to give into their evil intentions. He was starved to death in his cell.

He is known for his advocation of justice and having the church be free.

The first Native American Saint raised from the Mohawk Tribe, whose heart is so inflamed for the love of Christ that neither persecution nor disease can extinguish it.

Today's Feast Day of St. Kateri Tekakwitha
(Virgin)

Summary of Courage:

St. Kateri Tekakwitha was born in 1656 in a Mohawk village called Ossernenon (present day New York). She had a father who was a Mohawk chief and mother who was an algonquin Christian.

When she was a young girl at 4 years old, smallpox plagued her immediate family leaving everyone to death except for her who was left with scars on her face which she would cover and her sight partially blinded.

As she grew up, she experienced resistance within her community because she refused to get married for her love for Jesus.

Jesuit missionaries came to her tribe and taught her about the faith. St. Tekakwitha eventually received baptism at 19 years old and took the name Kateri because her devotion to St. Catherine of Siena. She again experienced resistance from her community and she was forced to move to a Christian village.

St. Tekakwitha took a vow of virginity and she was known for her deep prayer and extreme penances to her body. She eventually grew ill and died at the age of 24.

Her last words were: “I am leaving you. I am about to die.... Take courage, despise the discourse of those who have no faith... I will love you in heaven, I will pray for you, I will assist you.”

Symbolism:
Wooden cross: represent the wooden crosses she would carve to help her pray in the wilderness
Lily: purity
