What a great week! We partnered with The Cross church in Erie, who put on a wonderful mission trip for people from all over. This picture has some who drove all the way from Boston-- nine whole hours-- to come and serve our community. We're spending the week inspecting and servicing ramps in the city.
Yesterday was their third day, and by day three of a mission trip it's easy to start getting tuckered out. This wonderful group finished inspecting, chipping, staining, and repainting two ramps today. Something really special happened at the second ramp.
James is the fella in the middle. He's a nurse-- still keeps his license up-- and a superbly talented musician. James spends an hour on his ramp every morning playing one of his many saxes, and playing it well. I mean, really well. He asked us not to share videos of him playing, and we respect it, but you should have been there.
He played for the whole 2+ hours that we worked on his ramp. Start to finish. Gospel. Blues. Latin. Jazz. Everything on point and fluid. His music energized the mission group. It was such a special time, and it happened so naturally. Just a really pleasant guy and some really devoted mission workers who got to spend some time together, giving each other what they could. Definitely a top moment of a good month.
All God's Children Ministries is fueled by servant volunteers. We know that volunteering is good for the people who do it just as much as it is for those whom we serve alongside. Your support of the mission makes moments like this possible. Thank you.
Our mission is to train and equip congregations to create spaces of true belonging for persons affected by disabilities, identify gaps in services and strive to meet those needs, fueled by servant volunteers, as we demonstrate the love of Christ in all that we say and do.
