We were honored to host dozens of volunteers today for a wonderful ceremony and wreath laying event as part of Wreaths Across America. Wreaths were placed at the graves of more than 400 veterans. A fitting tribute to their service!

It's not too late to honor your departed loved ones during this holiday season with a special floral tribute, which will be placed at the grave or crypt. Choose from a holiday wreath (pictured here) for a graveside tribute, or a silk red poinsettia plant or single-stem silk red poinsettia for placement in one of our mausoleums.

On Saturday, December 16 at 10:00 am, volunteers from across WNY will gather at St. Matthew's Cemetery to lay wreaths at the graves of U.S. military veterans in the Field of Valor section at each cemetery. It’s all part of a national program called Wreaths Across America.

Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization founded in 2007 to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine wreath maker Morrill Worcester in 1992.

The organization’s yearlong mission – REMEMBER the fallen, HONOR those that serve, TEACH the next generation the value of freedom – is carried out, in part, each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at thousands of participating locations in all 50 states and beyond.

We encourage all who are interested to attend to show your support and to pitch in with the wreath placement. It’s a wonderful way to REMEMBER the fallen, HONOR those who serve and TEACH the next generation the value of freedom!

It’s hard to believe but today is October 1. Among other things, that means St. Matthew's Cemetery's fall/winter mausoleum hours are now in effect, closing two hours earlier than they did in the spring/summer. From October 1 through March 31 the doors of our mausoleum will be open daily from 9:00 am until 4:30 pm

During this "Weekend of Remembrance" we come together to commemorate one of the darkest moments in the history of our beloved city, we celebrate the lives and legacies of those taken from us too soon, we support their loved ones and friends whose hearts have been broken and we focus our energies on changing the dynamics that led to this tragedy.
