More sad news……

Many of us remember Father Victor from when he assisted us with Masses in the early 2000s, in the last few years of Father Jerry Dvorak’s time as pastor. During that time, he made for us some beautiful Filipino Christmas stars that decorated the choir loft during the Christmas season. We have not heard any funeral details yet.

St. Jerome received this message from the Archdiocese:

It is with great sorrow that I share the news of the passing of your pastor, Fr. Victor Valencia. We learned today that he passed away unexpectedly while in the Philippines on a medical mission. We ask your prayers for Fr. Victor’s soul and for his family and for all who will miss him dearly. We will share the details when we learn of them, and will plan a Mass for his eternal response in the weeks ahead.

We are sorry to hear that another of our former parishioners has passed away. Gene Josephs passed away on August 21. He and his wife Irene owned Josephs Market on Oakdale for 38 years and they generously donated the meat for our fall festival lasagna dinner for many years.

Gene's funeral will be at 11am at Holy Family in Mendota Heights. Visitation is at 10am and there will be a luncheon following the funeral.

Age 88 Passed away peacefully on August 21st, 2025. Gene was a pillar of the community on the West Side where he was born and raised and ran Josephs Market, with his wife, Irene, for 38 years. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine; father,

We are sad to learn that Garfield Smith passed away on June 12. Garfield and his family were parishioners for many years, with him serving as a lector and singing in St. Michael’s choir along with his wife Mary.

Garfield’s funeral will be on Thursday, August 14 at 11am at St. Rita’s in Cottage Grove. There will be a visitation from 10am to 11am at the church, as well as a luncheon following the funeral.

We are sad to have learned that longtime parishioner Don Harens passed away on March 24. Don was very active at St. Michael's for many decades, including the Holy Name Men's Club, the art and environment committee, serving as a lector and extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, as well as volunteering in various other areas of the parish and in the community.

Don's wake is March 31 (today) from 4pm to 7pm at Klecatsky's on Robert Street. His funeral will be April 1 (tomorrow) at 11am at St. Joseph's with visitation at 10am.

We are sad to have learned that parishioner Pat Mulcahy has passed away.

Services will be held at the Church of St. John Vianney, 19th Avenue North, South St. Paul, MN, on Friday June 17th. Service at 11:00 a.m., visitation one hour prior.

Our prayers and sympathies to the Mulcahy family.

St. Michael's merged with Our Lady of Guadalupe in St. Paul on July 1, 2019 and is no longer an operating parish. If you need sacramental records, please contact Our Lady of Guadalupe at 651-228-0506.

This page is kept operating by volunteers who were St. Michael's parishioners as a place to remember and reminisce about our 150-year-old former spiritual home and to keep informed about those from our parish family.

St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us!

We are sad to share that longtime parishioner Phyllis Grundtner passed away on November 17. For many years, Phyllis was also the secretary for the parish and for St. Michael's school.

The visitation will be at Klecatsky's on Robert Street on Monday, November 22 from 4pm to 6:30pm, followed by a prayer service and time of sharing. The funeral is on Tuesday, November 23 at 11am at St. Patrick's in Inver Grove Heights with visitation starting at 10am.

Our prayers and sympathies are with Phyllis's husband Tom, their children, and their grandchildren.

We are sorry to hear of the loss of another parishioner. Thecla Ambrose passed away on April 10 at the age of 92. She was a member of St. Michael’s for over 55 years and was active in many groups.
