Saint Joseph Catholic Church in West Saint Paul, Minnesota is a parish of the Archdiocese of St. We form disciples of Jesus Christ who pursue holiness in daily life and cultivate a life of joy and virtue. We are a vibrant community that boasts a rich Catholic culture, attracts significant daily sacramental participation, promotes life (and is full of life), hosts perpetual Eucharistic Adoration (a

nd has for more than 30 years), and cultivates fruitful vocations to the diaconate, priesthood, consecrated life, and marriage. We foster the communal life with opportunities for all ages, including social events; book studies; retreats for men, women, and youth; adult formation; works of mercy; senior gatherings; and more. We are fortunate to have one of the largest and most established Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) programs in the Archdiocese, fully-integrated within our school’s PreK-to-5th-Grade program. Our school, a primary means of evangelization and education, has been serving young people for more than 75 years. Saint Joseph Catholic School forms joyful disciples of Jesus Christ who pursue academic excellence and cultivate a life of virtue. At the core of our school’s mission is evangelization: helping our young people to be good, faithful, and productive citizens – and even more importantly, to know and love Jesus Christ and be virtuous and active members of his Church. Our full commitment to academic excellence is not merely compatible with our school’s Catholic identity and mission, it is demanded by that very mission. We currently serve more than 400 K-8 students and nearly 70 preschoolers.

What a joyful celebration of Corpus Christi!

Following the 11:00am Mass this morning, our parish community took part in a lovely Corpus Christi Procession, publicly witnessing to the beautiful reality of the Eucharist. It was such a special gift to see so many of our recent First Communicants participating in their special attire, adding to the beauty of the day.

The celebration continued afterward with fellowship, refreshments, and plenty of smiling faces. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this beautiful tradition and helped make the day such a joyful witness to our Eucharistic Lord!

With hearts full of joy and gratitude, we welcomed Father Charles DeReuil home to Saint Joseph for his Mass of Thanksgiving. What a beautiful and grace-filled morning for our parish community!

Following Mass, parishioners, family, friends, and guests gathered for a special reception, where many waited in line for the opportunity to receive one of Father DeReuil's first blessings.

Please continue to keep Father DeReuil in your prayers as he begins his priestly ministry. May the Lord bless him abundantly as he serves His Church with joy, fidelity, and love!

This Memorial Day, we pause in gratitude and prayer as we remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸 Please join us in praying for all who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom:

"God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride. Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters. Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace. We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

What a JOY it was to celebrate Pentecost together as a parish family! 🕊️🔥

We were so blessed to welcome Father Chad for our 11am Mass and to hear an inspiring homily from Father Wappes as we celebrated the birthday of the Church together! And once Mass ended, the party was on! From the church doors all the way up the street, there was a huge line of parishioners, school families, and dear guests waiting for food, fellowship, and fun.

Our young people especially brought the hype all afternoon long with intense four-square matches, towering giant Jenga builds, and synchronized dancing to amazing music!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us and to our amazing volunteers who poured so much time, energy, and joyful service into making this event possible. We're beyond grateful for each and every one of you!

One thing is crystal clear: Saint Joseph Catholic Church & School knows how to pray hard AND party hard! 🔥 The Catholic Church is alive, joyful, and on fire with the Holy Spirit, especially here in West Saint Paul!

Join us as we pray the Novena to the Holy Spirit for the Seven Gifts!

Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he commanded his apostles to" wait for the promise of the Father" in Jerusalem (see Acts 1:3-4). After Jesus ascended, "they went to the upper room where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. All these devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers" (Acts 1:13-14). Nine days later, the apostles celebrated the Jewish feast of Pentecost, and God fulfilled his promise by sending the Holy Spirit. We might say that this time of prayer in the upper room was the first novena. A novena is nine days of prayer for a special occasion or intention.

A great way to prepare for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and to open ourselves to everything God wants to give us with the Holy Spirit, is to pray this novena, consecrating ourselves to the Holy Spirit, meditating on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and asking Jesus to grant us those gifts. This beautiful practice puts us in the upper room with the apostles and Mary, waiting - and even expecting - to experience the Holy Spirit this Pentecost every bit as powerfully as they did at the first.

Each day includes an introduction, a verse from the Pentecost Sequence (Veni, Sancte Spiritus), a lesson on the Holy Spirit or the Gifts or Fruits of the Holy Spirit, a particular prayer for the day, and a set of daily prayers - the Our Father one time, the Hail Mary one time, the Glory Be seven times, the Act of Consecration to the Holy Spirit one time, and the Prayer for the Seven Gifts one time.

The novena properly begins on the Friday of the Sixth Week of Easter (today, Friday, May 15, 2026) and concludes on the Vigil of Pentecost (Saturday, May 23, 2026). That said, it can be prayed at any time throughout the year.

You can find the prayers for each day at: sjwsp.org/pentecost-novena.
