The Sacred Choir Credo was founded by Nikolay Neverov and Aleksey Tkachenko on January 1, 1992. Credo consisted of the third wave of emigrants from Russia, Ukraine and other republics from the former Soviet Union. Credo’s repertoire consisted of Russian sacred music written in different historical times. In the beginning, the choir performed music as a part of the Sun
day services at the Russian Baptist Church in West Sacramento. Gradually, the choir increased in members and the choir’s repertoire began complementing American Sacred Anthems and Spirituals. Credo has performed Christmas and Easter concerts and numerous church and community projects since 1992 in Sacramento, Roseville, Chico, Santa Rosa, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Jerusalem (Israel)
Credo published some of their own choral music collections. In honor of the 10 year anniversary of the choir’s existence, they released three choral musical collections: “I Believe”, “Come to Holy Child”, and “He is Jehovah”. Later, the fourth choral collection, “Soli Deo Gloria!” was released in conjunction with their 20th year anniversary. This collection included more than thirty choral anthems, some of them were Russian Sacred works that were new songs, which were not performed in the Russian society before. Arrangement and lyrical translations of most of these songs were made by the conductors and certain members of Credo. These collections are still in production and can be used for other choirs. One of the choir’s purposes is to acquaint the American audience with the treasures of Slavic Sacred Music such as "This Day" and "I will Lift Up Mine Eyes" by D. Bortnyansky, "I Cry With My Voice" and "Love Thee My Lord" by A. Strumsky, "To Thee We Sing" by S. Rachmaninoff. The choir’s repertoire has increased up to 300 Sacred works. The choir sings in several languages such as Russian, English, Ukrainian, Hebrew, Latin, Moldavian, German. In addition, Credo has recorded live concerts and uploaded many of their performances onto YouTube. The choir traveled to Israel in 2005 and performed at the major concert hall in Bat Yam and throughout the Holy Land. The choir also exists not only to fill the church services with music, but also to give meaning and emotionally impact its listeners in order to lead them in worship and conciliation with the eternal God.
