Romans: By Faith from First to Last

Paul grounds his authority as an apostle solely in the saving power of the Triune God. The Trinity is not an abstract doctrine, divorced from daily Christian living. Paul begins his letter to Roman Christians with the revelation that knowing this Triune God is truly gospel - it is good news! Life-transforming news!

The plan of God for the good of all humanity, as promised in the prophets of the Old Testament, is fulfilled in the Son, through the power of the Holy Spirit in raising Jesus from the dead.

How did this gospel news transform Paul? And how can the good news transform us today?

The Letters of John: Proclaiming the Word of Life

We remember Pentecost as an incredible time of unity when the Holy Spirit rushes upon the apostles and the thousands gathered at the Jerusalem temple hear - each in their own language - the gospel of Jesus proclaimed to them! But fast forward only a few years and we see real division within the churches the apostles planted. We see a picture of such division in the personal letter of 3 John.

What can the Apostle John teach us about division - and unity - within Christ's church today?

What does it mean to truly live? What do Christians mean when we talk about eternal life? And how does that "eternal" life have an impact on our lives in the here and now?

John began his letter proclaiming the "Word of Life." Now, John concludes his letter with a sevenfold pronouncement of life. And his ending, just like his beginning, is centered on Jesus.
