Footprints in the Sand: Devotions for each day "In Him I Serve Ministries"

Footprints in the Sand: Devotions for each day "In Him I Serve Ministries" This page is about testimonies and inspirational devotions for Women needing to know; you are not walking alone. There was something God placed in my path.

If you would like to share encouraging words and testimonies, please post them to my group page of the same name. After my sister, her husband, my mother, and my first husband all in less than a year died, if it wasn't for my relationship with God, I would have not made it. It was the poem called "Footprints in the Sand". "When I saw one set of footprints, it was God who was carrying me." This the

reason we have named this devotional page "Footprints". Also I want to say thank you to my husband whom God has placed in my life for his encouragement to grow in my personal relationship with our Heavenly Father. When we draw closer to the Lord, you will discover an awesome love He has for His children.

REAL REPENTANCE

Instead, I preached to those in Damascus first, and to those in Jerusalem and in all the region of Judea, and to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy of repentance. ~ Acts 26:20

**********

Who among us has sinned? All of us. But the good news is this: When we do ask God’s forgiveness and turn our hearts to Him, He forgives us absolutely and completely.

Genuine repentance requires more than simply offering God apologies for our misdeeds. Real repentance may start with feelings of sorrow and remorse, but it ends only when we turn away from the sin that has distanced us from our Creator. In truth, we offer our most meaningful apologies to God, not with our words, but with our actions. As long as we are still engaged in sin, we may be “repenting,” but we have not fully “repented.” So, if there is an aspect of your life that is distancing you from you God, ask for His forgiveness, and—just as importantly—stop sinning. Now.

Sincere repentance is continual: believers repent until their dying day.

If you hide your sins, you will not succeed. If you confess and reject them, you will receive mercy. ~ Proverbs 28:13

PEACE AND HIS WORD

Those who love Your law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble. ~ Psalm 119:165

**********

Do you seek God’s peace? Then study His Word. God’s Word is unlike any other book. The Bible is a roadmap for life here on earth and for life eternal.

The words of Matthew 4:4 remind us that, “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God”. As believers, we must study the Bible and mediate upon its meaning for our lives. Otherwise, we deprive ourselves of a priceless gift from our Creator.

Warren Wiersbe observed, “When the child of God looks into the Word of God, he sees the Son of God. And he is transformed by the Spirit of God to share in the glory of God.” God’s Holy Word is, indeed, a transforming, life changing, one-of-a-kind treasure. And, a passing acquaintance with the Good Book is insufficient for Christians who seek to obey God’s Word and to understand His will.

Peace is the deepest thing a human personality can know; it is almighty.

**********

Dear Lord, I pray for peace in the world and peace within my soul. You are the Giver of all things good, Father, and You give me peace when I draw close to You. Help me to trust Your will, to follow Your commands, and to accept Your peace, today and forever. Amen.

THE SONG I SING

I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving. ~ Psalm 69:30

**********

When I reach a goal, the glory is Yours, Lord. When I experience a time of plenty, may words of thanksgiving pour from my lips. If I fall, stumbling because of my own blindness, I will express my thanksgiving before You help me back up. My faith is my song. My heart knows the lyrics, and my spirit whistles the tune when I need comfort.

When I look at how far I have come in my faith, I am so very grateful to belong to You, my Redeemer.

LOVE THE SINNER

A loving heart attitude is at the core of caring for others. When a friend sins, it is okay to hate his or her sin—in fact, that’s biblical principle. But we’re to continue to love the sinner unconditionally. We are not to rejoice in another person’s suffering or downfall, being glad that they “got what was coming to them.” Jesus said in Matthew 12:34, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Here’s a little checkup you won’t find in your doctor’s office, but it could go a long way in keeping you spiritually healthy. John 13:34 says, “Love one another.” Ephesians 6:18 says to pray for one another. Philippians 2:3 encourages us to respect one another. First Thessalonians 5:11 says to comfort and “edify one another.” How’s your heart? Are you living these biblical mandates?

*********

Father, it’s so natural to be petty, to be glad when someone who seems high-and-mighty is brought low. But that’s not Your way. That’s not how You love. I want to love unconditionally and purely like You. Show me how. Amen.

NO MORE EGGSHELLS

You, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. ~ Psalm 86:15

**********

The “Eggshell Walk.” Ever try it? Alice did it with the Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland, and the Queen yelled, “Off with her head!” The eggshell walk is tiptoeing around a sticky, prickly person with whom you must always be guarded because you never know what will set him or her off.

You can’t approach this volatile individual without fear. Regular ways of relating to people don’t work with this type of person because of their unpredictable and destructive responses. Their rash impulsiveness has a ripple effect on people all around these toxic individuals. You want to resolve the interpersonal conflict, but to do so could mean your job, your friendship, your marriage.

God is not like that. You can move toward Him anytime and He’ll warmly welcome you. You can tell Him anything, even that you’re really upset with His actions (or inaction), and He’ll listen without an angry reaction. He’s approachable because He truly loves you. He’s simply available.

Draw near to His presence. Soak in His steadiness. Let yourself unwind, speaking the deepest truths of your heart to Him. Feel His acceptance and approval.

LOVE IS A CHOICE

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. ~1 John 4:11

**********

Love is always a choice. Sometimes, of course, we may “fall in love,” but it takes work to stay there. Sometimes, we may be “swept off our feet,” but the “sweeping” is only temporary; sooner or later, if love is to endure, one must plant one’s feet firmly on the ground. The decision to love another person for a lifetime is much more than the simple process of “falling in” or “being swept up.” It requires “reaching out,” “holding firm,” and “lifting up.” Love, then, becomes a decision to honor and care for the other person, come what may.

How do you spell love? When you reach the point where the happiness, security, and development of another person is as much of a driving force to you as your own happiness, security, and development, then you have a mature love. True love is spelled G-I-V-E.

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. ~ Proverbs 17:17

BELOW THE SURFACE

Let’s learn about the Lord. Let’s get to know the Lord. He will come to us as sure as the morning comes. He will come to us like the autumn rains and the spring rains that water the ground. ~ Hosea 6:3

**********

Are you a people-watcher? It can be fun to sit and conjecture about the individuals walking by. You might observe, “That man is very well dressed, but he doesn’t carry himself with much confidence.” Or, “That girl must be very proud of her body, she’s showing so much of it!”

These first-glance superficial speculations are just that---pure speculation. That well-dressed man may have just finished a bad interview. The sc****ly clad teen might be seeking attention she’s not getting at home. The truth is, it’s difficult to learn much at all about people---especially what’s in their hearts---based on a surface encounter.

The same is true with God. This verse from Hosea reveals a surface-level attempt at returning to the Lord. The people hoped to manipulate God into giving them His favor. But God was not fooled. A superficial relationship will not reveal His heart. He has a profoundly deep and wonderful bond planned between the two of you, but knowing Him personally is foundational for it to develop.

Has God seemed distant or unreliable lately? Consider whether you have been spending time learning at the feet of the Teacher. Cultivating a cherished rapport with the Master opens the gate for Him to become as dependable as the seasonal rains and sunrise. Tuck that promise away in your own heart this morning as you open it up to mingle with His.

STRENGTH FOR THE DAY

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. ~ Philippians 4:13

**********

Have you made God the cornerstone of your life, or is He relegated to a few hours on Sunday morning? Have you genuinely allowed God to reign over every corner of your heart, or have you attempted to place Him in a spiritual compartment? The answer to these questions will determine the direction of your day and your life.

God loves you. In times of trouble, He will comfort you; in times of sorrow, He will dry your tears. When you are weak or sorrowful, God is as near as your next breath. He stands at the door of your heart and waits. Welcome Him in and allow Him to rule. And then, accept the peace, and the strength, and the protection, and the abundance that only God can give.

By ourselves we are not capable of suffering bravely, but the Lord possesses all the strength we lack and will demonstrate His power when we undergo persecution.

**********

Do not overwork to be rich; because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven. ~ Proverbs 23:4-5

BACKSLIDING

Why do we forget to stay close to God?

GOD’S RESPONSE

If you think you are standing strong, be careful, for you, too, may fall into the same sin. ~ 1 Corinthians 10:12

Beware that in your plenty do not forget the Lord your God and disobey His commands…. When you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in…be careful. Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God. ~ Deuteronomy 8:11-12, 14

It’s easy to feel disappointment after fulfilling a major commitment. After victory we are most vulnerable. Pride can make us feel overconfident, but when there is no longer a big goal before us, our emotions can take a nosedive. In no time, we can go from elation to discouragement. Here are a few ways to stay close to God: (1) Declare your allegiance to Him out loud every day. (2) Choose daily to live the way God wants you to. (3) Obey His Word faithfully and deliberately. (4) Find a place to serve Him again right away, and do so with energy and enthusiasm. (5) Learn to rest in the Lord during the down times. If you seek God deliberately each day, it will be hard to forget Him.

GOD’S PROMISE

You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! ~ Isaiah 55:12

MY WAY or GOD’S WAY?

Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in justice, and He teaches the humble His way….He will instruct him in the way he should choose. ~ Psalm 25:8-9, 12

**********

In today’s culture, it is easy to follow “my way.” We are bombarded with advertisements from TV magazines, billboards, and the Internet that tell us “It is all about me” and “We can have it all.” We have access to people, information, and products 24/7. We have the Internet, e-mail, telephone, cell phone, fax, and pager that provide us with availability and resources. In buying anything, there is an overwhelming number of options to choose from. With all these distractions, it is not surprising that we have difficulty surrendering daily to God’s way.

Nevertheless, God wants us to live life His way. Our good and upright God tells us that when we come before Him as humble, meek, needy, or afflicted, He will teach us what is right and just. God will teach us His way of living. If it is a decision that needs to be made, a course of action that needs to be taken, or a word that needs to be spoken. God will instruct us in a manner consistent with who He is. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that we intentionally fall before the throne of God seeking His way, not our own. What way will you choose today?

**********

Dear Heavenly Father, good and upright God, please allow me not to be distracted in this world but to focus on You. Teach me Your way, I humbly pray. Amen.
