Unity: Intentional Community

Unity: Intentional Community We seek to help those who are homeless, addicted, broken, and rejected. "
- A quote from The Simple Way. This looks different for each person.

"For us, the Kingdom of God is not just something we hope for when we die but something we are trying to bring on earth as we live. We are Christ-followers from different backgrounds and walks of life, denominations, and purposes committed to building the kingdom of God. We believe that in various ways, we are all the poor, widow, and the orphan; in one way or another "the least of these". (Matt 2

5:40 - 45)
We desire to meet people where they are, providing physical needs while giving hope and purpose through the Gospel. Our goal is not a handout, but a hand up, to take people off the streets and teach them life skills for wholeness, to discover their purpose, and to fully embrace life. Different people are different, and a single solution is only sufficient for the individual it’s designed to impact. The worst situation we could imagine being in is often the best opportunity for changing our lives. We always strive to provide God’s best in everyone’s situation. Whether good or bad, we never stand in the way of each person. Full of sorrow, we stand by and watch people destroy themselves by their own choices – and subsequently celebrate joyfully when they choose success. We don’t require people to be what they are not – we only require that they accept who they really are. We work in the reality that sin leads to destruction. It is not up to us to punish recklessness and irresponsibility. When others look for ways to turn broken people away, we find ways to make it harder for them to leave. No matter the outcome, they always have a stable, loving, caring, Gospel-centered community to come to. In unity, we are made whole; by His grace – for His glory. We have resources at hand to help in areas such as:
housing
budgeting
life skills
counseling/discipleship
transportation
vocation
fulfillment of legal obligations

One more person to Freedom Seekers!!

We know God brings us down to valleys where we know we need him and distractions are pushed aside. Imagine the love God is showing these people when they have no family, no transportation, no money, and no house and they become seen and cared for. It's fairly easy to hide when we have our own... Everything!! We can hide behind the walls of our houses, our finances, our businesses, our ministries, our families, and extracurricular activities. It is not easy for a person that is homeless, at their lowest with nothing, to hide. They are seen. May God bring us to our valleys in the most gentle, loving way so we can be seen and loved immeasurably!!

We have another man going to Freedom Seekers Ministry today at 3:00!!! God is on the move, hallelujah! Steve and Terry will be taking Ben Young, Rocky's brother. Rocky is at Freedom Seekers - see previous post for more details.

We have 3 other men at Freedom Seekers from West Plains that we haven't shared about but look for updates soon.

Dave and Sara will be taking another man, Ronnie, to Springfield today so he can reunite with his mother and brother in Tampa, FL. In the mind of a person experiencing chronic homelessness - Florida is a better climate if it comes to that again, right?! (His words) So, not every person chooses transformation but we can still help them reach for success.

Continue praying for unity among God's chosen in all aspects, lifting our heads and heart to Christ ☝️!

Thanks everyone 🙌

**Reminder/opportunity ALERT** The entry fee for each man is $250. We are accepting financial support!

Rocky Young:
Hello Unity Peeps. My life is so much better now that I'm seriously serving the Lord. I'm working on building my relationship with God every day. He's blessed me with a great brotherhood that keeps me pressed in. I find myself not enjoying certain things now that I used to because it's not of God. He's truly amazing! Praise God!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am blessed beyond measure. I have placed God my life and I have seen changes in my marriage, relationship with my kids and a huge change in who I am as a person. I want to shout out to Doug Newton, Sara and Dave, and Phil. For without them doing God's work I'd be still in my misery or dead. Thanks

Rocky is doing great. He is at Freedom Seekers! He came back to West Plains for Christmas and spent time with Unity Peeps, his wife and children!! Keep encouraging each other!

Kevin Horton
We met Kevin when Deena and Sara and all that helped started feeding people on Tuesdays. The plan was to have a table, Jesus lovers, and a meal out by a busy street and invite anyone any and every Tuesday. Plans changed very quickly when we learned about the ol' Ridgecrest Hotel. It had quite the reputation...but we went there anyway. Every Tuesday for months we would deliver food - credit due to Bobbie Sue Gullings and Meryl (Catering By Bobbie Sue). We had Thanksgiving and Christmas out there with great memories to cherish for 2020.
The people living there were on the verge of homeless but had a roof over their head because of the hotel management. We didn't know all the details, all we knew was 70+ people lived there, men, women, and children in very rough situations.
Ridgecrest was forced to close in early 2021 and we continued some of the relationships we formed. One of those connections happened to be Kevin. Kevin was running the streets of West Plains at night knowing it must come to an end. He came to our house in tears saying he needed to change his life but he needed a minute. He would come and go from the shed in the backyard. Many times we doubted that he would ever be ready for a true change.
Approximately 3 weeks later he did it! He came in a spirit of surrender to commit to Freedom Seekers Ministry for a life of sobriety, hard work, and accountability. And he is doing it. Kevin looks different, acts different, and gets joyfully emotional at the drop of a hat. We know God delights in him.
A consequence of a rough lifestyle is legal issues. Although Kevin was moving up in his job already and creating such a band with Freedom Seekers brothers, he had warrants out for his arrest. He has done the right thing and came back to West Plains and turned himself in. He has been in custody since Monday December 26th. Please pray for Kevin to keep his chin up and know that he is doing the right thing. Funny side note is, Ron and Doug at Freedom Seekers ministry keep getting calls about men that Kevin is witnessing to in jail that might be headed down to Berryville (FSM).
To us here at Unity, this is the example of a righteous person. We all fail. But not all of us admit it and face it head on. Kevin is facing his sin head on even though the eternal consequence is PAID IN FULL!
