The ultimate purpose is to bring the Divine into the material. To make our everyday lives a place for G-d’s light to shine.

And what better way to begin than by bringing light into our homes?

As Shabbat arrives, let’s light, pause, and welcome more Divine light into our homes and our world.

Today is the second day of Rosh Chodesh Elul—the month of preparation for Rosh HaShana, the coming New Year.

Elul is a time when the King Himself comes out to meet us in the field. A time when He is especially near, inviting us to turn toward Him, speak to Him, and come closer to Him.

The King is in the field.
Approach Him. Ask Him for what you want and what you need.

“The greatest reward for doing a Mitzvah is who you become.”

At the beginning of this week’s Torah portion, the Torah tells us that if we fulfill the mitzvot G-d has commanded us, we will be rewarded. Chassidic teachings explain that beyond the physical blessings G-d grants us for fulfilling His mitzvot, the greatest reward is the connection to Hashem that every mitzvah creates. Every mitzvah we perform strengthens our bond with Him, and makes us a greater vessel for G-dliness. With each mitzvah, our soul becomes more deeply connected to its Source, transforming us into a dwelling place for G-d’s presence in this world.
