I spoke last night in our Wednesday night Bible Study about Moses from Hebrews chapter 11 that great chapter known as God's hall of fame or the heroes of the faith. In verses 23-27 God gives us, through the life of Moses, an illustration of what living faith is all about. Living faith is simply taking God at His word, then acting upon it, regardless of the circumstances or consequences.
In verse 23 it talks about the faith of the parents who hid the baby for three months. Why, because Pharaoh had a death sentence on all the baby boys that were born at that time. But, these Christian parents refused to let Pharaoh, a type of the devil, have their child. These parents knew that their baby was a gift from God and that God had a will and a plan for the child's life, as He does for all those who make it into this world. After three months the parents make a little ark out of bullrushes. They waterproof it and place their baby in the ark in the crocodile infested waters of the Nile river. It took a lot of faith in God to walk away from their child, but you can trust God as they did. By way of application, our kids live in a crocodile infested world of alcohol, drugs, po*******hy, humanism, etc. and we cannot isolate them from the world, but we can insulate them and make sure we do all we can to get them in the ark, the ark being a type of Jesus Christ and salvation.
The verse goes on to tell us that these parents not only cared for their child, but that these parens had great courage to disobey the king's commandment to kill the baby. Where did they get such courage? The secret to overcoming our fears is faith. Faith is the antidote to fear. Find out what God says, get ahold of His promises and believe His word and you will find fear goes away and you will have courage. Oh how we Christians need courage to live a Christian life in todays world.
Next Wednesday we will look at the personal faith of Moses. Come and join us in our Bible study starting at 7 pm.
