The Roman soldiers thought the crown of thorns, the robe, the staff, and the sign above the cross were all a cruel joke. But every detail of their mockery pointed to a deeper truth: Jesus really is the King. Adam reached for a crown and brought thorns into the world; Jesus took those thorns upon Himself so that we could be restored to what God created us to be.

The stress, fear, anger, and exhaustion can sometimes reveal what our hearts are really doing: trying to be our own king or queen. Real peace begins when we stop fighting for the throne and surrender it to the true King.
