Dear Friends,

“Rising Like Lions” – A Call to Action

The IDF’s current campaign has been named “Rising Lion” — a powerful name for a mission whose goal is to eliminate an existential threat hovering over the Land of Israel and the entire region.

Let us stand united in heartfelt prayer and with renewed inner strength.

In the Torah, the image of the "Rising Lion" also appears as a symbol of vigor and spiritual resolve — rising up each day with energy to fulfill the commandments of G-d, such as donning Tefillin or reciting the Shema.

At this extraordinary moment, let us “rise like lions” — through mitzvot that bring protection and strength — to support the IDF and all of Israel.

These include:
▪ Lighting Shabbat Candles (today before 8:12pm)
▪ Affixing a Mezuzah
▪ Putting on Tefilin
▪ Learning Torah
Or any mitzvah you are able to take on with intention and heart.
Every good deed makes a difference. If you would like help or guidance in performing one of these mitzvot, I would be honored to assist you.

Together, let us rise — with faith, with unity, and with action.

With best wishes for a peaceful and enjoyable Shabbos!
Rabbi Mendy Kasowitz

Today, June 10th, marks 613 days since the horrific events of October 7th, 2023. 613 days since families had their lives torn apart. 613 days since innocent people—men, women, and children were killed. 613 days since many were taken from their homes - and still remain in captivity.

It’s hard to comprehend.

But in our tradition, 613 has a very special meaning. The Torah teaches us that there are 613 mitzvot, 613 ways to bring goodness into the world. The number 613 is a call to action - for all of us.

In that spirit, Chabad of West Orange invites you to make June 10th a day of mitzvot—a day of doing good to honor the 55 hostages who remain in captivity.

Do something kind. Give tzedakah. Visit someone who’s lonely. Volunteer. Call a friend you’ve been meaning to check on. Say a prayer. Teach your children why we care.

No act is too small. Each mitzvah is a way of saying: We remember. We care. We are still here—and we are not giving up on those who are still waiting to come home.

Let this be a day where our heartbreak becomes fuel for compassion, where our sorrow turns into strength, and where we honor the hostages with acts of goodness that ripple far beyond us.

May our mitzvot help bring light where there has been darkness, and may they serve as a merit for the safe return of every soul still in captivity.

Shavuos is the birthday of the giving of the Torah and you're invited to the party!

The Holiday kicks off Sunday evening, June 1, with our All-Night-Learning in partnership with Cong Ohr Torah, this year being held in their Shul, 270 Pleasant Valley Way.

On Monday, June 2, all are invited to Chabad of West Orange for services beginning at 10am and to hear the Ten Commandments, followed by a delightful dairy luncheon and ice cream party!

On the second day of the Shavuos, Tuesday, June 3, services begin at 10am. During services we honor the memory of our loved ones with the Yizkor Memorial service. In the afternoon, all children are invited to Redwood Park at 3:30pm for activities, games, refreshments, prizes, ices, and an exciting amazing race! And at 7:30pm, Yeshiva students will be trekking in from the Rabbinical College of America to share words of Torah and inspiration!

Everyone is welcome to join us for this incredibly special Holiday!

May we merit to receive the Torah internally and with joy!
