This week’s Torah to Go takes us into Parshat Naso and the beautiful words of the Priestly Blessing, a blessing that has connected Jewish people across generations and around the world.

A big thank you to Shanna for bringing us Torah to Go each week with warmth, clarity, and a little spark to take into Shabbat.

Stay tuned for the next version of Torah to Go.

Today we remember and honor
those who gave everything
for our freedom.

As a Jewish American community,
we stand together in gratitude,
reflection, and hope.

Did you know we can learn about the unity of the Jewish people from Shavuot?

On Shavuot, we celebrate receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai. According to Midrash, every Jewish soul that ever was and ever will be stood together in that moment.

A moment of infinite Jewish unity.

Today, across oceans and continents, we remain one people, connected through Torah, heritage, history, and shared responsibility.

Temple Beth Sholom wishes the Jewish community of Rockland and beyond a joyful and meaningful Shavuot.

May the time of the giving of our Torah be a moment of renewal and joy for the Jewish people, as we once again receive Torah from Sinai.

Chag Sameach from Temple Beth Sholom.

A message from Rabbi Doug:

Dear TBS family,

As Jews, we stand in solidarity with all those who suffer for no other reason than their religion and beliefs. As it is stated clearly by our ancient Rabbis, hasidei uomot haolam yesh lahem helek l’olam haba. “The decent human beings of all faiths have a place in God’s heart”.

The attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego, so reminiscent of recent attacks on synagogues, is a vile act of hatred that should be condemned and repudiated by us all. The community of TBS stands with the Muslim community of San Diego and indeed all Muslims who make this country their home. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of those killed and those for whom this will be an everlasting trauma.

Wendy and I just returned from a long-planned journey to Morocco, a beautiful Muslim country. I spoke fluent Hebrew with several Muslims who miss their Israeli friends who, in better days, would come and visit. May a better day come for us all. In Hebrew, we say “Bezrat Hashem” - with God’s help. In Arabic, they have the same phrase “Bismillah” - with God’s help. In both languages, may better days come and may decent people prevail.

Rabbi Doug
