Dorshei Tzedek is a dynamic and growing Reconstructionist congregation in West Newton, Massachusetts, with over 200 member households. We are dedicated to Jewish learning and to ethical Jewish living in the modern world. Our Reconstructionist educational program is committed to making Judaism relevant and meaningful for children as well as adults. Our Rabbi, Toba Spitzer, has been named one of the

“Top 50 Rabbis in America.” You can read and listen to her talks on our website. Our community includes people from a wide variety of Jewish backgrounds, as well as interfaith families and people with little or no previous Jewish learning or experience. Our membership includes families, couples, and singles of all ages, Jews by birth and Jews by choice (or still choosing). All are welcome to this fun, musical, all-ages celebration of Shabbat! We begin with candlelighting and the Shabbat blessings at 6 pm, followed by a vegetarian catered dinner. Our musical service begins at 6:45 pm, and the night concludes with Oneg Shabbat at 7:30 pm.

Join us for a special Martin Luther King Jr., Birthday Shabbat! All are invited to join Rabbi Toba in the CDT Sanctuary or on Zoom for morning songs and blessings, beginning at 10am. We will celebrate the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Got Shabbat”-style, with a morning filled with activities for all ages!

Then, in addition to services and text study in the sanctuary (and on Zoom), you can choose from these alternative (in person) activities:

*A special celebration for kids aged 0-7 and their grown-ups

*Family friendly yoga, learning about key events and values in Dr. King’s life and practicing related poses

*Art workshop!

We’ll gather back together for Torah reading and closing blessings. Kiddush lunch follows services.

After Kiddush, at 12:45pm, all are invited to a conversation with about the novel Désirée Congo (translated by a CDT member!) and the Haitian Revolution.

All are welcome to join us on December 14 for our All Ages Chanukah Party! 4:30-7p at 1326 Washington St, Newton, MA (FUUSN)

Join us for this intergenerational night of celebration! We'll begin with Chanukah songs without candlelighting, followed at 5 pm by a variety of activities for all ages, including:

• Yiddish song and dancing
• Chanukah arts & crafts (make your own Chanukah candles and Chanukah cards)
• Text study for adults
• Dreidl extravaganza
• Cooking Bumuelos! (Sefardi Honey Donuts)
• And more!

Activities will be followed by the potluck dinner and Latke Extravaganza at 6:00 pm! Latkes are provided by an incredible team of CDT cooks; please bring a vegetarian side dish or salad as a potluck contribution to share to accompany the latkes – green salad, pasta, veggie, quinoa, tuna or egg salad, etc. (please avoid nuts). Drinks and desserts will be provided. Fair trade chocolate Chanukah gelt and Sindyanna olive oil will be available for sale from our Religious School's Kitah Hey (via check, cash, or Venmo).
