Do we only want spiritual experience?

Peter’s desire to remain on the mountain during Jesus’ transfiguration illustrates the temptation to prefer spiritual experiences over spiritual responsibility.

Peter’s response to the Transfiguration is especially relatable. He wanted to build three tabernacles and remain in the extraordinary moment. There is something understandable about his desire. He had witnessed something so magnificent that returning to ordinary life must have seemed undesirable.

Yet the disciples could not remain on the mountain.

This caused me to consider the difference between experiencing God and serving God. Spiritual experiences are valuable, but they are not the final purpose of discipleship. We are not called simply to collect moments when we feel God’s presence. We are called to take what God gives us on the mountain and carry it into the places where people are hurting.

The real test of a mountain experience may therefore be what happens after we leave the mountain. If the experience does not change how we respond to people, difficulties, responsibility, and obedience, then we may have experienced something emotionally powerful without allowing it to become spiritually transformative

At the Jordan, JESUS experienced divine acknowledgment, the descent of the Holy Spirit, and the testimony from heaven.
IMMEDIATELY afterward, He entered an environment characterized by isolation, hunger, weakness, and spiritual warfare.
Satan knew He was the messiah and still tempted Him right after His baptism and His obedience to God.

So if he tempted the Messiah….

But then I I started thinking of the way he tempted him.

He never asked Him to do anything “wrong”…

The issue was not simply whether Jesus would do something wrong; it was whether He would accomplish God’s purpose according to a method inconsistent with God’s will.

This caused me to reflect on the difference between having a God-given purpose and choosing the method by which that purpose will be accomplished.
A person can desire something that is good while still being tempted to pursue it through the wrong means.
Jesus demonstrated that obedience to God was more important than immediate results.

The God who knows how to open doors for you is the same God who knows how to close them. If I had been Noah, I think I would have struggled to close the door of the ark. After all the prayers, the years of preaching righteousness, and the investment he made into the lives of others. I would have been hoping that someone would make a last-minute decision to step inside before the rain began. But thankfully, God knows our hearts. The Bible reminds us, “Whenever our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts” (1 John 3:20). God knew Noah’s heart, and in His mercy, God Himself shut the door of the ark. Sometimes we need to let God close the door so He can lead us into the next season of our lives. Stop striving. Stop explaining. Stop overthinking. Place your heart in God’s hands. He will give you the strength to move forward when you cannot. Trust Him with the doors that open and the doors that close. One door may close, but God is already preparing another. He is the God of opened and closed doors, and His timing is always perfect. Be encouraged, something good is on its way to you and your family. Trust the One who holds every door in His hands.

It is still called an elevator even when it goes down. Even when it dwells on the lowest level, it is still an elevator. In the same way, just because you may find yourself in a low season does not mean your calling has changed, your destiny has been canceled, or your identity has been diminished. Difficult seasons may affect your position, but they do not redefine your purpose. Your lowest moment is not your final destination, and where you are today does not determine who you are tomorrow. Keep moving forward, keep trusting God, and remember this: your position may change, but your purpose does not. You were built to rise.
