The month of September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. This devotion was given to us through St. Bridget of Sweden (1303-1373), who had a profound devotion to the sufferings of Our Lord and the sorrows of His Blessed Mother. During this month, we are invited to draw close to the Sorrowful Heart of Mary, to console Her in Her grief, and to unite our own sufferings to Hers.

Mary, Consolation of the Sorrowful 🕊️
There are wounds in the human heart that words cannot reach. There are sorrows we hold quietly, burdens no one else sees, and crosses that seem far too heavy to carry. Mary understands. She stood beneath the Cross and watched the Lamb of God, whom she carried in her womb and gave Her life for, now give His life up for the world. She remained there as the sword of sorrow pierced her delicate and Immaculate Heart while sharing in the mystery of Her Son’s suffering and death. In the suffocating and seemingly inescapable darkness of grief, She trusted. She teaches us that the crosses we carry are not carried alone and the bitter tears we shed never go unanswered. When the heart is weary, when suffering seems without purpose, and when we can do nothing but remain beneath the Cross, Mary is there, with us. She feels our every pain, ache, and sorrow and she implores us to place our wounds in Her loving and motherly hands. Our Lady of Sorrows, pray for us!

“Behold the Heart which has so loved men that it has spared nothing, even to exhausting and consuming Itself in testimony of Its love...” -Jesus to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque.

✝️JOIN US on this First Friday of the Month in honoring the Sacred Heart of Jesus through prayer, adoration, confession, and Holy Communion.

The traditional devotion of the Nine First Fridays, associated with Our Lord’s revelations to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, consists in receiving Holy Communion on the First Friday of the month for nine consecutive months, with the intention of making reparation for sins and for the indifference shown toward His Sacred Heart. Our Lord, in connection with this devotion, promised twelve special graces to those who faithfully observe the Nine First Fridays.

How to observe First Friday:

❤️‍🔥Attend Holy Mass and receive Holy Communion worthily.
❤️‍🔥Make a good Confession as needed.
❤️‍🔥Offer your Communion in reparation to the Sacred Heart.
❤️‍🔥Spend time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
❤️‍🔥Pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
❤️‍🔥Practice charity and strive to live faithfully according to the Gospel.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

⛪️Afternoon Prayer & Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament: 12pm
⛪️All Day Adoration: 12pm - 6pm
⛪️Confessions: 5-5:30pm
⛪️Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus: 6pm

For more than 260 years, Catholics in West Milford have gathered, prayed, sacrificed, and worked to preserve and pass down the Faith.

In this special conversation, longtime parishioner Bill Marra reflects on his time at St. Joseph’s, the stories passed down to him by generations of parishioners, and the steadfast faith of the Catholics who helped build this parish.

Catch a glimpse into just one of the many fascinating stories woven into the history of the oldest Catholic parish in New Jersey!
