As we begin this year’s General Assembly, we do so in a time of uncertainty, change, and possibility.

In today’s Ingathering Service, we were reminded that curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to experiment are not distractions from faithful living—they are part of how we meet the moment.

May we carry that invitation with us throughout the week as we learn, worship, discern, and discover new possibilities together.

At 250 Years, LGBTQ People and the Unfinished American Story

I am so pleased to share this wonderful new resource, Beloved as We Are by Barbara F. Meyers and Shelly Rohe, published by Skinner House Books. This powerful and much-needed book brings to the forefront the experiences of people with disabilities in Unitarian Universalist communities through their own personal stories. These stories reveal experiences of healing and belonging as well as those of exclusion, insufficient accommodations, and ableism.

Our spiritual work as Unitarian Universalists, to remain open to learning and growth and to deepen our practices of ever greater inclusion, is never finished. I invite all Unitarian Universalists to explore the stories in this book, whether individually or in group settings. To know another’s lived experience clearly through their own telling is to move closer to greater connection and understanding, and to greater love.
