Dear brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ,
I am writing to inform you about the situation in Haiti – specifically in the capital, Port-au-Prince. There is no need to recount what the international press has already explained regarding the situation in Haiti. However, things have worsened, degenerated, when the gangs decided to take control of the capital while the Prime Minister was in Kenya to sign an agreement authorizing the Kenyan police to set foot under the leadership of the United Nations. And since then, chaos has ensued...
There is no need to explain to you what we (residents of Port-au-Prince and its surroundings) are currently experiencing: fear, stress, involuntary displacement, lack of food supplies, barricaded roads, closed schools, open prisons, buildings set on fire, and closed airports. The streets are under the control of armed bandits. I leave it to your imagination to picture the worst in a country without authorities or law.
We, as Christians, are convinced that in this situation, only God can speak a word to show His glory. That is why we ask you to implore divine favor with us, so that:
We do not lose confidence in God's ability to act in favor of Haiti.
God raises up conscientious leaders, capable of taking hold of the reins of the country.
Relief arrives for the people in these times of distress.
Solidarity increases within the population.
On behalf of the association, we thank you and rely on your prayers more than ever.
Osé Pierre, Président ASFU
