Pastor preached this morning on, "Don't throw it all away!" out of Hebrews 10:32-39. Do not throw away your entire relationship, your spiritual journey with all the blessings, for one moment of hardship. Hold on!
1. In these scriptures in Hebrews, we read of the importance of perseverance and not throwing away your relationship with God due to adversity. God sends us people in our lives who help us through these periods of adversity. Friends who help us carry the burden, who intercede for us, who listen and are there. Not only did God send Elijah, a friend, Elisha, but He also rebuked Elijah saying there are 7,000 more in Israel who still believe in me. Do not believe the lies of the enemy that tell you that you are alone!
2. In 1 Kings, we read of Elijah telling the Lord that he is the only prophet. He felt alone while facing the false prophets. But God intervened on Elijah's behalf. Elijah's trial didn't end there though. Elijah was chased away into solitude by Jezebel. While in solitude, Elijah is crying out again to God that he is all alone. He says God why don't you see me?? I'm all alone. They are seeking to end my life. Where are you?? And God told Elijah to step out, and God wasn't in the earthquake, the wind, or the fire but He was in the small still voice. Elijah wanted to hide away and give up, but God said no don't throw it all away! He told Elijah continue on your way, and God sent Elisha to Elijah. God does NOT forget us in the midst of a trial. He is saying keep on, don't throw it away, I'm sending help your way! An Elisha is coming!!
3. God gives us favor. This favor includes our walk in the Lord and the friends we make along that journey. God always shows up, so do not throw it all away. When our trials become the hardest, is right before God shows up. Weeping may endure for the night, BUT joy is coming in the morning! Take note also, in 1 Kings 19, when Elijah was ready to throw it all away, God did not deal with him harshly. He sent food, rest and then a friend. We are not expected to carry this burden alone. We are expected to stay in constant communication with God and rely on Him.
