Key Aspects of Their Partnership & Public Life:
Early Life & Meeting: Michelle Robinson grew up on Chicago's South Side, graduating from Princeton and Harvard Law; she met Barack Obama, a community organizer, in Chicago, and they married in 1992.

Day 4 – Richard Allen (Founder, AME Church)

📖 James 2:17 – “Faith, if it hath not works, is dead.”

🖤 Spotlight: Black churches organized schools, food drives, and voter education.

Richard Allen (1760–1831) was an American minister who founded the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in 1816 in Philadelphia, serving as its first bishop. Born into slavery, he purchased his freedom and established the denomination as the first independent Black Protestant church in the U.S. to escape racial discrimination.

Key facts about Richard Allen:
* Foundation of AME: In 1794, Allen founded the Bethel AME Church (Mother Bethel) in Philadelphia. In 1816, he united several Black congregations to formally organize the AME Church.
* Early Life & Freedom: Born in Philadelphia on February 14, 1760, he was enslaved but converted to Methodism at age 17. He purchased his freedom in 1783.
* Advocacy & Legacy: He was a prominent abolitionist, ran a station on the Underground Railroad, and opened a school for Black children.
* Leadership: As the first Black bishop in the U.S., he led the AME Church for 15 years until his death in 1831.

The AME Church remains one of the largest Methodist denominations in the world.
