📖 A Remarkable Story of West Haven History — and the Man Who Helped Shape It✨
Join us for a special evening with Stephen Hildrich, very knowledgeable in aspects of West Haven history, and a conservationist.
Stephen is the founder of the Concerned Citizens for Bradley Point (1979) and the Land Trust of West Haven (1991). At crucial times, he has worked tirelessly to preserve the public shoreline that generations of West Haven residents have enjoyed, and he has preserved the history and character of that 40 year battle.
On Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 5:30 PM, Stephen will present his newly completed 450-page documentary history chronicling West Haven’s 40-year struggle to preserve Savin Rock’s shoreline for public use. This extraordinary work brings together newspaper articles, published letters, photographs, 3 important court cases, firsthand accounts, and other important documents of one of the most significant preservation efforts in our city’s history.
📍 First Congregational Church of West Haven
Thursday, June 18, 2025 - 5:30 PM
464 Campbell Avenue, West Haven
Fellowship Hall
During the presentation, Stephen will:
📚 Share the story behind the book and the remarkable events that shaped our shoreline
📜 Display original historical documents and materials
🎁 Donate copies of the book to local organizations and historians, including the Land Trust of West Haven, First Congregational Church of West Haven, and the West Haven Historical Society, and others.
Whether you are a lifelong resident, history enthusiast, preservation advocate, or simply curious about the story behind the shoreline we enjoy today, this is a unique opportunity to learn from someone who lived it, saved the documents, and helped make it happen.
Stephen’s knowledge of West Haven history, especially of the First Congregational Church, where he is Church Historian, is truly extraordinary, and his passion for preserving our community’s heritage is inspiring.
The public is warmly invited to attend. (We regret that this event is inadvertently scheduled at the same time as the WHHS graduation.)
Please share this event with anyone who loves West Haven and its history.
