Connecticut Celtic Community

Connecticut Celtic Community We are a Celtic spiritual community grounded in love and the sacredness of all creation.

Our monthly worship service in the Celtic tradition centers on contemplation, connections to the earth, and healing and transformation through meditation and prayer. The service features brief readings and reflections, beautiful music from a variety of traditions, and prayers. Based at Hartford International University in Hartford, Connecticut, we meet on the first Sunday of each the month, October through June. The service begins at 4:30 with a period of silence for reflection and preparation.

November in the Celtic Wheel of the Year

In the Celtic Wheel, November marks the true beginning of the year, not its end.
The old cycle closes at Samhain, and from that threshold the new Celtic year begins in darkness.

It’s an important reversal from the modern mindset that associates beginnings with brightness and momentum. To the Celtic understanding the new begins in stillness, in the fertile dark, where unseen processes of renewal begin to take shape.

To us, this time of year belongs to rest, reflection, and quiet gestation. The visible world dies back: leaves fall, fields lie bare, and the days shorten. But this is not decay for its own sake. It’s the earth conserving its energy, drawing inward to prepare for the next season of growth.

That rhythm guides us too: November invites us to slow down, to listen inwardly, to trust that what seems dormant is still alive beneath the surface - time to let our activity find its roots again. A time for the quiet work that ensures that life renews with intention and depth when spring returns.

Morning rises softly after the feast of Samhain - a quiet world washed clean by the turning of the year. The frost glimmers like candlelight across the grass, and somewhere a wood smoke thread curls upward, carrying the scent of oak and cedar.

This is All Hallows Morning, when the Celtic year begins again in earnest - not with noise, but with stillness. The living and the remembered walk side by side for one more dawn before the veil settles. The air is a prayer without words: "Continue."

Step outside or open a window. Feel the cool air on your face and whisper one intention - not for achievement, but for alignment. If yesterday was the hinge, today is the first step through. Take inventory not of what you lack, but what remains faithful: the friend who endures, the work that still calls, the body that carries you.

The new year, in the old way of reckoning, begins not with a shout but a sigh - a promise uttered into chill air. Whisper yours.

Samhain: Turning into the Dark

Samhain marks the ancient Celtic turning of the year - a time when the harvest is complete, the veil between worlds thins, and the long nights invite us inward. It is both an ending and a beginning: the close of the old cycle and the seedbed of the new.

Traditionally, Samhain honored ancestors and kin, the hearth was tended, and candles were placed in windows to guide wandering spirits home. It is a night for remembering, for gratitude, and for quiet trust in the unseen rhythms that continue beneath the surface of things.

May this Samhain bring you stillness, warmth, and a sense of continuity - life renewing itself even in the dark.

The Autumnal Equinox

As day and night meet in balance, the sky itself becomes a threshold: fire fading into shadow, water reflecting both.

In this turning, we remember: life is not only about the harvest we hold, but also the quiet patience of waiting, of casting our line into mystery, of trusting that presence itself is enough.

From our circle to yours, may this Equinox bring balance, gratitude, and peace.

Lughnasadh Blessings!

On August 1 we honor Lughnasadh - the festival of first fruits and early harvest, when the Earth offers us her ripening abundance and reminds us that creation is a shared labor.

Named for the god Lugh, this turning of the Wheel of the Year calls us to gratitude, gathering, and grounded reflection. The grain is cut, the light begins its slow withdrawal, and we are asked:

• What in your life is coming to fullness?
• What have you sown that is now ready to reap?
• And what must be honored, shared, or released before the darkening days ahead?

Whether you kneel in the garden, break bread with friends, or simply pause to feel the golden air of high summer - know that you are part of the sacred rhythm of the Divine.

May the first harvest nourish your body, spirit, and community.
May your labors bear fruit.
May you know the joy of enough.

Blessed Lughnasadh

☀️ Post-Solstice (Alban Hefin)

The sun is still singing loud, but the wise know it won't last forever.

This is a season of fruit and reckoning. What are you ripening? What needs tending before the heat matures into harvest?

In ancient Celtic traditions, the Summer Solstice - Alban Hefin, the "Light of the Shore" - was a time to honor the sun’s peak, the fullness of life, and the blessings of abundance.

Fires were lit on hilltops, herbs were gathered in sacred timing, and communities gathered in joy and gratitude. It was a moment of balance before the sun began its slow retreat toward the darker half of the year.

Today in 2025, the wisdom of this ancient observance still speaks. It reminds us to pause in the light, to celebrate what is blooming in our lives, and to tend our inner fire. As the world rushes on, the Solstice invites us to be still and ask:

> What is ripening in me?
> What deserves celebration before the turning comes?

Whether you stand barefoot on the grass, light a single candle, or gather with friends beneath the twilight sky, may you mark this sacred turning with intention.

From your friends at the Connecticut Celtic Community - By hearth and horizon, we honor the light together.

Friendship as a Sacred Bond

In Celtic tradition, friendship is more than affection - it is soul-binding, a sacred tether, a meeting of mysteries. Anam Cara. Soul friend.

You are invited to join the Connecticut Celtic Community on Sunday, June 1 as we gather in our sacred circle to reflect on Friendship in its deepest, most beautiful sense.

Not just companionship.
Not just kindness.
But the invisible, powerful thread that reminds us: You do not walk alone.

Today, May 1st, we celebrate Beltane, the ancient Celtic festival of fire, flourishing, and sacred connection.

Beltane marks the turning of the Wheel of the Year toward summer’s full bloom. It is a time to honor:

The rising energy of life all around us,
The spark of creativity and passion within us,
And the bonds of love and community that sustain us.

Traditionally, Beltane was celebrated with bonfires, dancing, and blessings upon the land. Today, we can honor its spirit in any way that brings us closer to joy, beauty, and renewal - be it lighting a candle, walking barefoot in the grass, or simply noticing the world in bloom.

May this season bring you warmth, clarity, and a deeper sense of connection - to the Earth, to one another, and to your own becoming.

Beltane blessings to you and yours! The Connecticut Celtic Community Team
