Important Communal Kosher Update:
In recent years, the Hartford Kashrut Commission (HKC) began a restructuring process - including reconstituting a Board of Directors, creating a Rabbinic Committee, and reviving its non-profit status - in order to maintain the high level of standards and service our community and clients have come to expect and rely on and to increase the global acceptance of our kashrut certification. We are grateful to Rabbi Yitzchok Adler for his years of service to the HKC. However, in order for us to meet our goals and fulfill our vision as a nationally recognized va'ad ha-kashrut, our board took the unanimous decision to part ways with Rabbi Yitzchok Adler last month.
Yesterday, we learned of an attempt to compete with the communal mission of the HKC. Some of the information put forth by this new program is both misleading and incorrect. Many of the listed venues are in fact still under the active certification of the HKC, staffed by HKC staff, and supervised under HKC standards.
Upon further investigation, we can also confirm that the HKC remains the only kashrut agency in the region recognized by AKO (Association of Kashrus Organizations), the only kashrut agency that has had partnerships with the Star-K, Chof-K and OU, the only kashrut agency that shares reciprocal relationships with the Vaad HaKashrus of Fairfield County and Massachusetts Kosher Commission (formerly the Springfield Vaad Hakashruth), and the only kashrut agency run by the Greater Hartford community and formally recognized as such by the Greater Hartford Rabbinic Association (GHRA).
HKC reaffirms that the cornerstone of any kashrut agency is reliability, integrity, and honesty. We will continue to work assiduously to ensure that this standard is maintained across our community.
