"RabbiTuvia Brander calls it a “hate tax,” referring to astronomical costs for security at Jewish synagogues and religious events, now a requirement amid rising incidents of antisemitism in the state and nation.

“The reality is that we live in a world where in order for us to be able to live as Americans given the rise in antisemitism and just the rhetoric around town, these are the costs we incur,” Brander said.

“It’s a hate tax we pay because there’s hatred around us.”"
