GOOD NIGHT, SLEEP TIGHT
"IN VAIN YOU RISE EARLY AND STAY UP LATE, TOILING FOR FOOD TO EAT-FOR HE GRANTS SLEEP TO THOSE HE LOVES." (PSALM 127:2)
Health gurus explain the benefits of quality sleep. But sleep can be elusive! Regrets of the past replay in our minds; we toss and turn in worry about the what ifs" of the future.
Today's reading gives this assurance: "You can go to be without fear; you will lie down and sleep soundly" (V24)
But how? By hanging on to wisdom and discernment (V2))
Where do these come from? James 1:5 affirms. "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you." Asking God for wisdom goes with the admonition of
1 Thessalonians 5:17 to "pray without ceasing." Pray about everything and pray before everything.
James 4:13-15 warns against making plans without first consulting God. But it's so human to take important action without first consulting God, rather than seeking His wisdom and guidance before acting.
The habit of praying first will radically change the way we view others, judge situations, and make decisions. Quality and quantity of sleep will be yours because "the Lord is your security" (v26). Good night. Sleep tight!
