Obon 2026
First of all, I would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to all the families, friends, and Sangha members from near and far, who gave their time to make this year’s Obon festival so successful!

All the hard work provided by everyone made the event go smoothly. All the games, vendors, and delicious foods made the day so enjoyable. It was so nice to see all the kids having so much fun at the game booths and winning raffle prizes. All the tables were full of people enjoying each other’s company, the tasty food, and the refreshing beer. The weather cooperated and made for a very pleasant day. Thank you Reverend Miyoshi for the very meaningful Manto-e ceremony. A big thank you to Kishin Daiko for their, once again, stellar performance and accompaniment during the Bon Odori. The change of the location of the dance circle was a great decision as it seemed to provide more space for dancers and viewers alike. June 27, 2026, was a wonderful day for both attendees and members of the West Covina Buddhist Temple.

Once again, thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Obon festival. I am looking forward to next year.

In gassho,
Bruce Whang
The Obon Committee Chair
