Anchor Notes: Make Room for Him
John 20:19–22
This Pentecost Sunday, we were reminded that Pentecost is far more than a moment of noise, wind, or fire it is about making room for the presence of God. Before Acts 2 ever shook the house publicly, Jesus first stepped into a locked room privately.
The disciples were gathered behind shut doors because of fear. Fear had filled the room. Fear had locked the atmosphere. Yet the resurrected Jesus stepped into the middle of what fear had shut down. He did not wait for the door to open. He stepped in anyway.
One of the strongest truths from Sunday was this:
Fear locked the doors… but it could not lock Jesus out.
Jesus spoke twice:
“Peace be with you.”
This was not casual greeting. This was resurrection peace being spoken into traumatized hearts. The first peace settled their fear. The second peace prepared them for assignment. Before power came, peace came. Before Pentecost came, peace came.
We also saw that Jesus showed them His hands and His side. The scars were still visible. The wounds no longer represented defeat… they had become testimony. The disciples recognized Him through the marks of redemption. And just like Jesus, God can heal us, restore us, and still use the testimony of what we survived for His glory.
Then Jesus breathed on them and said:“Receive the Holy Spirit.”
Breath throughout Scripture is connected to life, awakening, restoration, and Spirit. The same God who breathed into Adam now breathes into fearful disciples. Before Heaven filled the house with wind in Acts 2, Jesus first filled the room with peace and breath in John 20.
We followed the journey from locked doors to open Heaven. The disciples who once hid in fear eventually gathered together in unity, expectation, and surrender in Acts 2:1–4. They made room for Him.
That became the heartbeat of the message:
When they made room for Him… He filled the house.
Pentecost reminds us that God still fills prepared places. He still steps into fearful rooms. He still transforms atmosphere. He still breathes life into weary hearts. And He still pours out His Spirit on people willing to make room for Him.
As we move through this week, may we ask ourselves:
What has filled the room of my heart? Have I truly made room for Him? Because Heaven still responds to yielded space.
Join us Wednesday night for Harbor Talk as we continue digging deeper into Pentecost, the upper room, the power of peace before power, and what it truly means to make room for the presence of God in our lives and homes. There is still so much revelation left to uncover in this powerful journey from locked doors to open Heaven.
