Lord, hear our prayers.

Today we recognize National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
Did you know that across the US, Native women are murdered at 10x the national average? Or that an estimated 95% of cases identified by the Urban Indian Health Institute had not been covered by the mainstream media?

May 5th is a day for remembrance of those who we have lost and a call to action and justice for the women, girls, and two-spirit individuals whose stories remain untold. GCSRW stands in solidarity with you. No more stolen sisters.

Today is the 70th anniversary of the granting of full clergy rights for women in the Methodist Church!

The first Methodist woman ordained in the US was Helenor Davisson--almost 160 years ago, on Aug. 24, 1866.

Maude Jensen became the first woman full member of an annual conference (full clergy rights) soon after the 1956 General Conference.

*Much earlier, in 1847, one of our predecessor denominations, the United Brethren Church, commended the first woman to preach, approving licensing and ordaining women, and granting conference membership in 1889.*

Call to be a peacemaker.

This week, board members of Global Ministries, UMCOR and Higher Education and Ministry from around the world are gathering in Nairobi, Kenya, for their spring meeting.

As General Secretary Roland Fernandes welcomed the board during his report today, he also encouraged the boards to lead and serve as peacemakers, emphasizing the urgent need for faithful global engagement in this time of deep instability.
