The 4th-7th grade youth group is called BASH (Bearing A Servant Heart). 8th - 12th Grades meet on a weekly basis for Youth Night. Together we share the love of Christ with each other, the West Bend community, and beyond. Not only

do we meet weekly, but we also attend mission trips, sevice events, and other fun events. God's grace is always open to everyone, so come and check us out! Ephesians 2:8-10
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Story time. Because I want to show some love to the good people in the universe.

Took Jaxx to Dairy Queen tonight for dinner since we were both in the mood for it. Walk into the lobby and it’s a bit full with what looks like a group of kids and adults on a trip of some kind.

We wait in line, place our order, and then I reach for my wallet. “Are you paying for the whole group,” the guy at the counter asks?

Me: No, it’s just me and my kid. What group are you talking about?

What I didn’t realize was that everyone else in the lobby at that moment was part of one group and paying together.

The gentleman in charge of the group, a schoolteacher named Alan, walked over and we figured out what happened.

And then the argument began. You see, I was insistent that I would pay for our food and Alan was equally insistent that he wanted to buy Jaxx and I our meal. He wore me down and I agreed to keep it on his tab.

While we waited for our food, we began to chat and I shared with him some of the things he didn’t know before his generosity. That I hadn’t seen my kid in more than two years. That my kid is transgender. That I’ve had a hell of a journey to get to a point where I can have a night with my child even happen.

He shared a bit of his faith with me and it was the most genuine interpretation of what religion is supposed to be, even for someone who is agnostic myself.

Alan and I shared one common thread that I think more humans need to remember. The world is a better place when we take care of each other and we care about our neighbors.

So I want to give a shout-out to Alan, a school teacher at St John’s Lutheran here in West Bend.

Thank you.
