**Revised**
Grace, upon further consideration, the elders have made the difficult decision to cancel all gatherings on the Lord’s Day tomorrow.
This is not a decision we take lightly and we don’t want you to take it lightly either. The NT word for “church” means “the called out and gathered.” There simply is no biblical substitute for physical assembly and “online attendance” will never fulfill the Scriptural expectation “not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together” (Heb 10:24-25).
Because the ordinary means of grace cannot be received distantly or remotely, we will resist the temptation to condition our congregation to accept anything less than in-person assembly. While listening to a missed message or service due to the rare exception of sickness or travel can be nice, even this is a practice we provide with reluctance.
We are aware that dozens, maybe hundreds, of churches across the Carolinas have cancelled or are offering online alternatives. But everything we do and decide makes disciples. Many churches have missed two weeks in a row now. While providential hindrances will happen, we must resist allowing cancelling or refraining from attending to become normative for our churches or in our personal walks with the Lord and His bride which He purchased with His own blood.
With this weight before us, given road and parking lot conditions, the extreme cold, and the concern we have for your safety, we are cancelling all gathering times on the Lord’s Day tomorrow.
We encourage you to gather with whoever is in your home or close by and open God’s Word together, sing, pray, and fellowship. Please consider the impact that cancellation has on churches financially and be prepared to give generously next Sunday.
We will miss you and are already eager to see you on Wednesday and next Sunday.
May Christ sustain you while we’re away from one another (and keep you warm!). Please reach out to any elder or deacon of member care with any physical or spiritual need you may have.
We love you.
