Living for applause, accolades, praise, approval, likes... not good. Why not?
Because when the applause stops, when there are less likes, when fishing for complements yields no results, your self-worth deflates.
This is bad because you are not being your authentic self, you compromise your convictions, your self-worth is wrapped up n others' opinions, you miss opportunities to be used by God, and you could resent someone.
Let's explore what the Bible has to teach about this and seek approval from the only One who is ultimately deserving of giving it.
5:05 - The message begins with an object lesson involving a balloon being inflated and then deflated. This prop is sure to make the point very memorable.
10:29 - The eighth and final example of living for applause is that of the retired reputation keeper. Said keeper is hesitant to be transparent and vulnerable in their community regarding how their children or grandchildren are doing.
15:02 - Pastor Paul prays and then provides some background behind the main passage. Then, he reads the passage and provides commentary as he reads.
18:54 - At this point in the main passage, we learn that we must prove ourselves faithful to what God has entrusted to us.
24:20 - Verse six is read. The interpretation is, "Church, I am leading by example. Don't be ill-affected by others' opinions of you as you make a stand for Jesus."
26:22 - The first takeaway is inspired by verses 2 and 3. If you're controlled by others' opinions of you, you may not be faithful with what God has given you to "KNOW Jesus, GROW in your love for Him, and GO share your story."
29:30 - The second takeaway is inspired by the last few words of verse three as well as verse four. You should examine yourself, yet, just know that your judgment may be skewed.
33:26 - The third takeaway is inspired by verse five. The apostle Paul's point regarding Jesus' return is both sobering and hope-filled.
36:18 - The summary statement is delivered: When your life is built on applause, you lose faithfulness to God. But when your life is anchored in Christ, you find your true worth in Him.
In our post-COVID-19 world, our worship services look different than weโve ever experienced. Yet in the middle of all the changes, there are still some things that havenโt changed. This is a time to celebrate the God who never changes. As we remember how He helped us in the past, we can step forward in faith, in confidence, knowing that He will also see us through each new difficulty that enters into our life. This is New Vintage Church of West Allis, Wisconsin Sermon from May 3rd, 2026.
