The moment someone hurts or wrongs you is the moment you have to decide who’s going to handle it - you or God. Scripture never asks you to minimize pain or to call wrongdoings as okay. What it does teach is where to take it.

In Romans 12:19, Paul wrote, “Never avenge yourselves… for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’” That isn’t God overlooking what happened - it’s God taking full responsibility for justice in a way you never could. When you hold on to revenge, you’re trying to carry something that was never yours to manage to begin with.

Jesus took it even further in Matthew 5. He didn't just call us away from retaliation after hurt - He called us into a completely different posture: to pray for those who hurt us. Not because they deserve it, but because it keeps your heart from being shaped by what they did. Bitterness feels justified in the moment, but over time it quietly reshapes you. Forgiveness doesn’t excuse the wrong - it releases your right to personally settle the score.

Look at the cross. Jesus was betrayed, falsely accused, beaten, and crucified - and still He said, “Father, forgive them.” This was complete trust in the Father’s justice. He knew that God sees everything, weighs everything, and would make all things right.

When you take your pain to God, it’s an act of faith. It’s saying, “I trust You to handle this better than I ever could.” In that surrender, something shifts - not just in the situation, but in you. Peace begins to take the place of what once felt heavy, and your heart becomes free instead of hardened.

Ephesians 4:31–32:

"Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

The King Is Here: Handling Demons
Matthew 17:14–23

Today’s message was a good one, and honestly, it hit in a way that makes you stop and check your own walk.

What stood out right away is that before we ever see the man’s problem, we see his heart. He comes to Jesus and simply says, “Lord, have mercy on me.” He knew Jesus could do what no one else could—and even after the disciples couldn’t help him, he didn’t quit. He kept going. He kept pursuing Jesus.

That’s where the contrast shows up.

The disciples had experience. They had seen things. They had even had success before. But in this moment, they leaned on what they had already done instead of depending on God in the present—and it wasn’t enough.

And if we’re honest, that’s us sometimes too.

We can start relying on what we know, what we’ve seen, or what we’ve done in the past… instead of staying fully dependent on Him right now. But today was a reminder that past spiritual success doesn’t equal present spiritual power. And just being around truth doesn’t automatically change us—we still have to walk it out in faith.

There was also a strong reminder that we’re not just some organization going through motions. We’re part of a living body—an organism—that’s meant to be fully connected and dependent on Christ.

Faith was a big piece of today too. Not just belief, but real conviction. The kind that says, “God, I trust You—even if I don’t see it yet.” Even if the outcome isn’t what I hoped for.

Because at the end of the day, the question really isn’t, “What can Jesus do?”
We know what He can do.

The real question is, “Will I trust Him… even if He chooses a different outcome than I expected?”

That’s where it gets real.

We were reminded that Jesus has the power to restore, to heal, and to move in ways no one else can. And no darkness can stand against Him and win. But we’re also called to keep growing—to keep being shaped. That process doesn’t stop, and sometimes it comes through seasons of weakness that teach us to rely on Him more, not less.

Simple takeaway: don’t lean on yesterday. Seek Him today.

Arise, and do not fear.

The King and His Glory

Today’s message from Josh walked us through Matthew 17:1–13, when Jesus took Peter, James, and John up the mountain and revealed His glory in what can be called the Transfiguration.

One thing that stood out is how intentional Jesus is in everything He does.

He didn’t bring the crowd.

He brought a small group.

Three men who were close to Him. Three men who were ready to be fed. Three men who were walking with Him daily.

That’s a powerful reminder that our walk with Christ was never meant to be done alone.

Even Jesus — the Son of God — lived life surrounded by a tight circle of disciples. He taught them, corrected them, encouraged them, and revealed deeper truths to them together.

We all need that.

We need brothers and sisters in Christ who are pursuing God alongside us.
People who challenge us.
People who pray with us.
People who remind us who Jesus is when life gets heavy.

Sometimes the deepest spiritual growth happens not in a crowd, but in a small group of people with the shared purpose of pursuing God together.

On that mountain, the disciples caught a glimpse of Jesus’ eternal glory. They saw clearly that He was not just a teacher or prophet — He is the Son of God.

But what happens next is important.

They don’t stay on the mountain.

Because following Christ isn’t about chasing spiritual high moments.

The call to follow Jesus isn’t about glory — it’s about a cross. It’s about sacrifice.

Jesus is our model.

He didn’t need that moment with the disciples, but He gave it to them anyway. He was preparing them, strengthening them, showing them who He really was so they could keep walking with Him and carrying the mission forward together.

And then He gives a simple command that still applies to us today:

“Get up… and follow me.”

But we don’t do that alone.

We follow Him together.

And that’s exactly how Jesus designed it.

The King’s Exam and the Destination
Matthew 16:13–23

Cullen brought a powerful message this morning.

In Matthew 16, Jesus does something interesting.
The Teacher stops teaching… and starts asking questions.

“Who do people say that I am?”
But then it gets personal.
“Who do you say that I am?”

That’s the King’s exam.

It’s not enough to admire Jesus.
It’s not enough to respect His teachings.
You can admire Jesus and still completely miss Him.

If He’s just a prophet, then He’s a false prophet.
If He’s just a good teacher, then He misled millions.
He doesn’t leave room for casual categories.

He is either a liar…
or He is the King.
The Savior.
The Christ.

When Peter answers, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” he isn’t giving Jesus a compliment.

He’s giving Him the crown.

And that question still echoes today:
Who do you say that I am?

Because our actions will always be a product of what we truly believe.
What we say with our mouth eventually shows up in how we live.

The exam determines the destination.
