Prelude: They’ll Know We Are Christians by Wellsville UMC Ringtones
We Gather to Worship God
Call to Worship:
Pastor: Some of us come to worship today, weary and worn, heavy with all the circumstances that are too much to bear alone.
People: We gather to travel God’s redemption road together.
Pastor: Some of us come to worship today, dry and thirsty, longing for relief and peace from the troubles that surround us.
People: We gather to travel God’s redemption road together.
Pastor: Some of us come to worship today with stories to tell of little resurrections, moments of new life that sprang up when we least expected them.
People: We gather to travel God’s redemption road together.
Pastor: Beloved, whatever we bring with us to worship today, God welcomes us and calls us to work together as we travel God’s redemption road together.
People: We gather to be truth-tellers and life-bringers as we travel God’s redemption road together.
All: Amen.
Opening Hymn: TFWS 2162, Grace Alone
1 Every promise we can make,
every prayer and step of faith,
every difference we will make
is only by his grace.
Every mountain we will climb,
every ray of hope we shine,
every blessing left behind
is only by his grace.
(Refrain)
Grace alone which God supplies,
strength unknown he will provide.
Christ in us our Cornerstone;
we will go forth in grace alone.
2 Every soul we long to reach,
every heart we hope to teach,
every-where we share his peace
is only by his grace.
Every loving word we say,
every tear we wipe away,
every sorrow turned to praise
is only by his grace. (Refrain)
Prayer of Brokenness and Confession
Pastor: Gracious God, You call us into new life, yet we confess that we often remain in places of death.
People: We hold on to fear, we stay in what is comfortable, and we resist Your call to come out.
Pastor: We allow shame, doubt, and sin to keep us bound.
People: Forgive us, O Lord, and give us courage to respond to Your voice.
All: Amen.
Assurance of Forgiveness
Pastor: Hear the good news: Jesus is the resurrection and the life.
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven, restored, and made new. His grace sets us free from what binds us, and His love calls us into life.
Pastor: The One who called Lazarus from the tomb calls us into freedom and new life.
People: We receive this mercy with hope and courage, and we step forward in the life He gives.
All: Thanks be to God. Amen.
The Giving Time
Doxology: UMH 95, Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
praise him all creatures here below;
praise him above, ye heavenly host;
praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
Amen.
Joys & Concerns - The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Hymn of Preparation: Prayer On Slane by Wellsville UMC Ringtones
Children’s Time
We Hear God’s Word: John 11:17–27, 38–44 NRSVUE
When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, some two miles away, and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them about their brother.
When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, while Mary stayed at home. Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him.”
Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live,
and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world.”
Then Jesus, again greatly disturbed, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, already there is a stench because he has been dead four days.”
Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, “Father, I thank you for having heard me.
I knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here, so that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”
The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of cloth and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
Leader: The Word of God for the people of God.
People: Thanks be to God.
Message Title: “Lazarus, Come Out”
Closing Hymn: UMH 369, Blessed Assurance
1. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
2. Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love. (Refrain)
3. Perfect submission, all is at rest;
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love. (Refrain)
Taking the Light of God out into the World
