I posted this yesterday and felt I should put it on our Church site. We prayed Wednesday night for our nation - our ONLY hope is turning to the Gospel message that Christ died in our place and the Gift of salvation is a Personal decision to receive a Personal Savior.
I wanted a few hours to reflect on what is happening in America. Today is the 24th anniversary of one of the most impactful days in our history, and everyone who was alive that sunny, Tuesday morning, knows where they were and what they were doing when the news of the attacks reached us.
I remember the temporary unity in Washington and among neighbors and strangers – but we realized America would never be the same. In our youth meeting the next night, our youth group met on Wednesday nights at North Baptist, I had a number of local churches call and ask if they could attend our meeting and just be with us when I addressed what happened the day before, from the Bible that night. There were tears, there was some fear and uncertainty, but we KNEW that God was STILL in control and STILL on His throne. God worked even in that tragedy.
Yesterday, I had some of the same feelings and thoughts, but I was also angry. I hate to admit as a Pastor, that it was not a “righteous anger”…I thought of revenge and how many on the other side politically were the ones who deserved the result that Charlie Kirk faced. I was wrong, but I DO KNOW that everyone NEEDS Christ. Charlie Kirk woke in heaven to see the face of the Savior he trusted for his salvation. After I confessed my sinful anger, I have tried to pray that those who are responsible for the evil in our world (Iryna Zarutska – the girl murdered in NC, Charlie Kirk and so much more hatred and wickedness) are only acting according to their nature…"The heart of man is desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9)
PEOPLE NEED THE LORD!!
If you haven’t read “Our Daily Bread” this morning (September 11), the article had Lamentations 1:20-22 for the Scripture reading:
“Look, O Lord, for I am in distress; my stomach churns; my heart is wrung within me, because I have been very rebellious. In the street the sword bereaves; in the house it is like death.
21 “They heard my groaning, yet there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it. You have brought the day you announced; now let them be as I am.
22 “Let all their evildoing come before you, and deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my transgressions; for my groans are many, and my heart is faint.”
**God is Good even in the midst of evil. He will WIN! I’m still learning this Truth as well. If you have any questions about what I shared or what Charlie Kirk promoted about his relationship with Christ: “Christ defeated death so you could live”, please contact me so we can discuss what Jesus did because of His love for YOU!!
