Congratulations, Elder Bernice, on your much deserved recognition! ❤️

McDowell County Heroes. Until the end of February, the Commission on Aging will be identifying a unique McDowell County Hero each day whose efforts make our county a better place to live.

Today's hero is, Bernice Poole Thomas.

Bernice, known to many as Neice, works at Welch Community Hospital in the X-ray Department. She is known for her bright smile and encouraging word. Bernice is an Elder at Royal Kingdom Ministries where she also teaches Children’s Church. Neice serves faithfully within the church, as well as in the community. Many times Bernice has stopped on the street or in the hallway at work to pray for someone in need.

Since her days at Kwik Serv, Bernice has been known to love the youth and people in general; she often says Kwik Serv is where her ministry began. It’s definitely where people came to know her, as she spoke to everyone who entered the doors. She was the assistant coach of Mount View Girl’s Basketball team for several years and it was something she throughly enjoyed.

She continues to be a light to all who encounter her, making our community a better place.
