Dear friends in Christ Jesus,

Attached is the June calendar. Activities of our dual parish are listed, along with the daily Bible readings for those reading thru the Bible in a year.

Have you fallen behind in your readings? Or maybe never started? No worries! Get started or restart with these June readings!

If you have been keeping up with the readings, you’ve just about read through the entire Psalter, and you’re almost halfway through the rest.

You might also notice the symbol in the upper right corner of the calendar with the letters V D M A. They stand fore the Latin words: Verbum Domini Manet in Aeternum, which in English is translated: The Word of the Lord Endures Forever. This was the motto of the Reformation. I chose to use this symbol on our June calendar because June 25 is the anniversary of the Presentation of the Augsburg Confession.

We usually celebrate the Reformation on October 31, the day Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg in 1517. But June 25, 1530 is just as important of a date for Lutherans, perhaps even more so. For this is when our confession of faith, that we still hold to today, was presented to Charles V, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire with these words "Most gracious Emperor, this is a Confession that will even prevail against the gates of hell, with the grace and help of God."
